Obama, in S.F., decries Bush policies(nation's crisis; division between between people, government)

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, on his first Bay Area swing since announcing his bid for the presidency, said Monday that the nation's most vital division is ``between the American people and their government.''

And he warned that if government doesn't address such issues as global warming, the federal deficit and lack of investment in education, ``We may be consigning the next generation to an America that is a little meaner and a little poorer than the one we inherited.

``That is un-American,'' he told a crowd of about 1,000 people gathered in San Francisco for a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer.

The audience saved its biggest applause for Obama's blunt assessment of the war in Iraq.

``We're in the midst of a war that should have never been authorized,'' he said. ``As a consequence of our misguided policies in Iraq, we find ourselves less safe.''

Obama had agreed to appear at the Boxer fundraiser last year, before he announced his bid to become the Democratic nominee. He planned to end his evening at a party in Portola Valley where more than 200 people -- many who had already given the maximum $2,300 contribution to Obama's campaign -- were expected.

Earlier in the evening, a glowing Boxer announced to reporters that she will run for re-election in 2010. She added that she expected to raise $350,000 from the Obama event.

Obama came to Harvard in the fall of 1988 after graduating from Columbia University and spending four years as a community organizer in Chicago. At the end of his first year, Obama was selected to serve on the Law Review as one of 80 'editor'-students; midway through his second year, on Feb. 5, 1990, Obama was elected president, becoming the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Any division in the country is because of YOUR party, you fricken moron. YOUR party has done more to divide Americans, play class against class and race against race than ANY OTHER FORCE

(G-d how I despise these people)

Yes, the Republicans are un-American, and how dare they question our patriotism?!

Interesting coming from the party that has whined for the past, I don't know, ten years or so that we were unfairly calling them unpatriotic. Rather hypocritical, don't you think?

In a discussion of George Washington's farewell address the point was brought up about political parties:

Washington also advocated national unity and warned against the formation of divisive political parties. But he was confident that "the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and the duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it."

Where are the "wise people"? Apparently the Dem party is purely motivated on emotion.

Obama is anti-Bush and anti-war. Gee, that'll separate him from the rest of the Dem field.

someone should make one of those Hussein Obama Cliche Generator sites where you would take a normal sentence and then it would generate a Hussein Obama cliche soundbite.
