Obama, in S.F., decries Bush policies(nation's crisis; division between between people, government)

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, on his first Bay Area swing since announcing his bid for the presidency, said Monday that the nation's most vital division is ``between the American people and their government.''

And he warned that if government doesn't address such issues as global warming, the federal deficit and lack of investment in education, ``We may be consigning the next generation to an America that is a little meaner and a little poorer than the one we inherited.

``That is un-American,'' he told a crowd of about 1,000 people gathered in San Francisco for a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer.

The audience saved its biggest applause for Obama's blunt assessment of the war in Iraq.

``We're in the midst of a war that should have never been authorized,'' he said. ``As a consequence of our misguided policies in Iraq, we find ourselves less safe.''

Obama had agreed to appear at the Boxer fundraiser last year, before he announced his bid to become the Democratic nominee. He planned to end his evening at a party in Portola Valley where more than 200 people -- many who had already given the maximum $2,300 contribution to Obama's campaign -- were expected.

Earlier in the evening, a glowing Boxer announced to reporters that she will run for re-election in 2010. She added that she expected to raise $350,000 from the Obama event.

I'm getting a bad case of Obama fatigue.

Another Freeper said it on Jan 2, 2007...."It's gonna be a really long 2 years".

I'm worried already; beginning to find waaaay too much comfort in My 1800Hrs Martini(s)....

"That is un-American"

Isn't it amazing how easily leftist scum slip into ranting about "un-American" ideas, activities, etc.??? I thought it was the depth of McCarthyite evils (sarcasm) to accuse anyone of being "un-American" or thinking "un-American" thoughts...... hell, we couldn't even call treasonous communist spies "un-American" without getting the political left into panty-wads....... but it's just fine for Obama to call Republicans "un-American" isn't it??

Obama was elected president, becoming the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review.

What position did they elect his white half ?

"Misguided," huh? The Democrats offer NO solutions - only carping criticism. And when pressed, what they have on offer is plain old-fashioned surrender. Barack Obama just whines about Iraq and doesn't offer voters anything inspiring. That's par for the course for his party today and even a Hallmark Card candidate has his limits.

The Democrats ARE partisan! They continually divide America even while decrying its divisions. These people loathe our military in their vote and they have the chutzpah to talk about the need for "healing." Spare me!

They can keep up a barrage of relentless criticism but we can't counter that? Oh my, I guess that's un-American!
