(AgapePress) -- A former GOP presidential candidate says the controversy surrounding two liberal bloggers for Democrat John Edwards' presidential campaign gives Americans a window into the powerful far-left blogosphere. Gary Bauer also says the controversy highlights the fear top Democratic politicians have for far-left activists within their own party.
Two Edwards campaign bloggers recently resigned amid protests over their history of vulgar and bigoted comments directed at Catholics and Christians. Although Senator Edwards acknowledged the statements were offensive, he initially decided not to fire the two women saying, before they quit, that he kept them on staff to give them "a fair shake."
American Values president Gary Bauer says the scandal will not immediately sink Edwards' campaign, but that it does set a "marker."
"It tells us something about the mindset of Senator Edwards and his top campaign people," he says. "And my experience in over 35 years in politics and in Washington has been that once a politician makes this kind of a misjudgment you'll see it over and over again -- and if the pattern continues, then I think, yes, it will doom his chances."
But what Edwards' hesitancy does demonstrate, says Bauer, is that Democratic presidential candidates are "scared to death" of left-wing activists operating websites like MoveOn.org and the Democratic Underground.
"On these sites you'll find an unbelievable hatred of Christians, of Evangelicals, of Jews, of conservatives in general, of the president," he explains. "And the people who go to these websites are often the volunteers, the doorbell-ringers, the envelope-stuffers, and the donors that unfortunately the National Democratic Party has come to rely on."
Bauer says anytime there is a controversy, people like Senator Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and others on the left do whatever they can to avoid offending the "radical left fringe that controls their party."

ROTFLOL!!
Thank goodness no one on Free Republic is afraid of "offending" the Left Wingnuts.
Edwards fears the moderates and Hillary (who is a true lefty) fears the lefties.
That's the price one pays to dance when you sell your soul to the Devil.
DUmmieland is a hate site.
Yes, underneath it all .. but the dems don't want the general public to know they are really like the KOOK left .. because if the general public really knew .. then the dems wouldn't be able to fool the public so easily.
But .. Reid does consult with the guy who writes the Daily Kos - EVERY DAY .. which tells me Reid is following the KOOK left pretty closely.
You're right .. and I think it's going to cost the dems a lot.
My Pastor always says, "sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you most than you want to pay."
The KOOK base is just part of the Shadow Party.
What is a combination of scary and sad is how many people either don't see it or don't care.
So when am I going to see this news story in the lamestream media?
Well .. I hope we have learned enough not to be afraid of offending anyone. Time for the PC stuff to stop!
Probably when donkeys fly .. LOL!!
Love that! It has great tagline potential.
= )
Well .. I've had a private theory why the dems have come out so fast and hard (but so early) campaigning for 2008 .. it's because they are being pushed by the kooks.
That being said .. the kooks are going to mess up along with the dems, because of the dems characteristic of "overplaying their hand" .. and comments about that are already showing up in the new poll.
As the kooks continue to pressure the dems to move ever more left .. more and more people are going to become painfully aware of what the dems are really all about. To me .. it just seems inevitable.
"... cost you most ..."
It should have been "cost you more"
Oh gosh, hi AnnaZ .. long time since Friva-Las Vegas .. LOL! That was such a fun weekend.
Here's what Bauer misses that Hillary Rodham understands.
The fringe control the discourse on the media; however, they do not control the Dem primary voters.
This is why, in psychodrama of tragic irony, Hillary pretends to be more toward the middle (laughter); while her true Marxist self is farther left-of-fringe than the "radical...fringe" themselves.
Hillary has already won the Dem primary, it's all over but the voting.
.
Meanwhile on the Right side of the fence, Bush and the GOP ignore their base most of the time.
Hence their current Minority status...
I hope you're right....I think you're right.
Both rant a lot, but the Dummycrats allow their nuts to be in charge.
They fear the Brown Shirts.
"... but the Dummycrats allow their nuts to be in charge."
That's the difference!
What do you mean by that ..??
Profound and true.
True .. but when Hugh Hewitt launched his "Pledge" stating that we would not support any Senator who voted for the Iraq resolution.
I want people to know that the repubs suddenly took notice after he signed up thousands of people in just a few days.
This was the main reason the dems did not pass the resolution in the senate .. and there were only 17 traitors from the House.
We are making progress in causing the repubs to figure out the base is still here and we are paying attention and we do know what's going on and our congress persons better start figuring it out and stop bowing to the dems.
Quite frankly .. I don't care if she wins the primary or not .. because that still is no guarantee she will win the WH.
A very good prayer.
You made yourbed, Now sleep in it....you d@mn 'Rats.

Just always remember that this Commie bee-yatch interned with Saul Alinsky, author of "Rules for Radicals." Alinsky also became the top guy in the Socialist U.S. Party. Her Thighness' ambitions know no bounds and all one need do is look to the left as far as your sight can carry you - her ambitions are beyond that point.
Hmmmmmmm I wonder if the GOP is afraid of their activists from the right?
NO! They were marginalized years ago.
They still make noise .. but the base is not moved by it.
Actually, like Dr. Frankenstein, what they both fear is the wrath of what they and their ilk have created.
I expect the Dem's 2008 convention to be a repeat of 1968.
That is why we need to prepare early for the likely event of Hillary's candidacy - - I'm talking about pressing for info on such things as ...
- The missing pages of the Barrett Report, which by some accounts allege the Clintons using the IRS to audit political enemies. (This is the biggie, most voters would have a negative opinion of credible allegations of Stalinist misuse of the IRS.)
- The missing Wellesley thesis
- The Peter Paul scandal
- And several others (including the relationship with Saul Alinsky in her formative years.)
.
Rembrant - - you are quite correct about the notion that folks need to remember Hillary Rodham's association with Saul Alinsky (who famously said "Life is a corrupting process... he who fears corruption fears life.)
Yes, I'm upset about the Barrett Report also.
Tony Snow was doing such a great job of getting people to notice that report - or the lack there of - after we spent our hard earned dollars for the investigation.
I know it's hot because Kerry and Dodd tried to put an earmark in one of the bills in the senate to stop funding the report and therefore stopping it from being printed.
Tony purports to have read portions of it and it's really hot. However, as soon as he took the WH job, all his activities about the Barrett Report stopped. While I can understand why .. I was always curious if he was hired for the new job just to shut him up (so to speak).
I do remember Tony mentioning that there were repubs and dems involved in the report and it was not nice to anybody.
I'm still looking for somebody with guts enough to ask for a copy of that report - and then release it - because it would not be illegal to do so and at least the public would be able to find out what's in it.
Her collage stuff .. I don't focus on it too much because when you're young and stupid .. you do and say stupid things. Her mentor though is another story .. what he has said and what he taught are important for people to understand .. because that's why she thinks like she does.
