I maybe a cynic, but I don't think this is unusual politician at all. Our last 4 republican nominees (except Gerald Ford) have had serious flip-flop issues. I agree with Rush Limbaugh, "We should applaud politicians who change their politics to match conservatism (read Mitt Romney), and we should frown on those politicians who want to change conservatism to fit their politics (read McCain and Guilanni)."

And don't forget when Romney was ahead of Ted Kennedy in 1994, no conservative was complaining about the political positions he had to take win in Massachusetts. No conservative complained because everyone knew that his victory would have been a tremendous victory in the Senate because every one knew we would have been much more conservative than Ted Kennedy even though hampered on social issues (which would have been negated by the ability to nominate conservative Judges which what really counts IMHO). If you didn't complain then of this tactic with Romney and with the numerous other Republicans running against Libs in very Liberal states, then how come you get to complain now?

Actually, Now and Later, I specifically remember watching the 1994 Senate race.

Having managed or consulted the campaigns of many a member of Mitt's church, I was initially excited at the prospect of Romney's stronger-than-expected candidacy against Kennedy.

Then I remember learning -- by either watching the debate or reading news accounts -- of his deeply disappointing left-wing views, and I was disgusted.

So I certainly complained to myself at least, though don't recall ever doing so in any public venue.

And FREE REPUBLIC didn't exist.

Complain now? Because we don't live in MA. Because Mitt is running for POTUS.
