Ha, they couldn't keep Kofi's fingers out of the till and they couldn't make UN 'peacekeepers' behave themselves with helpless children... how could they stop an asteroid?

Their first act would be to pass a resolution blaming it on Israel.

Stopping an asteroid's one solution to the U.N. problem.

...involving the construction of a "Gravity Tractor,"...

Didn't Mr. Haney sell Mr. Douglas one of these?

If the UN can't stop two African tribes from cutting each other up with machetes, how on earth could they do anything worthwhile?

Actually, the UN would demand America turn over billions for their project while skimming from the top and then passing it to the French to actually implement.

We'd all die broke. In fact we'd probably die before the asteroid hit - from the French machine...

Would The United Nations Stop An Asteroid?

No.

They'd shake it down for a donation... then rape it.

According to the show, "UFO Files", the official protocol for any object or life form coming to Earth, must be reviewed by the UN before any action is taken.

Will it burn dirty Diesel fuel?

Yeah! The UN will send the asteroid a sharply worded warning.

The UN would pay $50 million to the asteroid to avoid the earth but skim $49 million before the payout.

Well sure they could get together. And they will, they will all get together and DEMAND that America do something about it.

The United Nations couldn't stop a toilet without first spending 35 million on a feasibility study and then taking three votes; one to condemn Israel, one to petition the United States to continue funding the project, and one more to condemn Israel.

No mater what, I see the UN looking for another large check from the US to study the issue.

"Would The United Nations Stop An Asteroid?"

I have worked on a United Nations team (the GRRF, the Working Party on Brakes and Running Gear). Based on this experience, I don't believe the UN could stop a spitball, much less an asteroid.
