LONDON: Britain's official policy on Iraq is that its troops will leave as soon as they can hand control over to Iraqis. But there is one particular soldier who, according to a crescendo of British newspaper reports, does not seem quite so replaceable.

Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne and second son of Prince Charles, is an army officer, reportedly with a hankering to be treated as just another soldier in line for rotation in southern Iraq.

Some of the British media is as anxious to undermine THEIR government as many of our publications/broadcasts are. Why don't they just tape a GPS onto the kid and send him on his way?! They've been advertising the fact he is due to embark to Iraq since last fall. The insurgents probably have a bonus offering contest for his capture/head by now! Then they can blame Bush/Blair for the loss of a Prince of the Realm.

Mr. Prince is probably the reason for the announced drawdown by the British.

If they are drawing troops down, no sense in sending one of their ROYALS as a target.

Personally, I don't know why the Brits just don't throw all those ROYALS out on their ROYAL ARSES.

I think that if they wanted him safe, they would just keep him safe. They wouldn't change their entire foreign policy on account of this.

He'll be a danger to his squad mates as he would be such a prize target of the jihadis.

The prince should quit the military, take up his sword as the prince and tell everybody else to go to hell like a prince should... if the knights follow him, all the better...

A prince should do whatever the hell he wants to in regard to warfare... If the knights follow him, all the better...

Remember former Army Colonel Hackworth, a highly and much decorated veteran of Korea and Vietnam,
writing about how soldiers resented those that attract attention in a combat zone as it invariably attracted the enemies attention to them as well. A similar experience might be in store for Prince Harry if he's posted to Iraq ...

I am English by birth but American by temperament. I agree that the Royals are parasites, a relic of bygone days who cost the country a fortune. I wish that the monarchy were abolished and Britain a republic.

However, I'm with Harry on the question of whether or not he should go to Iraq. He has about a 0.01% chance of being killed, and a 99% chance at bringing honor to himself and his family of useless inbred gits.

It wasn't that long ago that no English army would take the field without the King at its head. The kingdom would survive just fine with the loss of a playboy prince way down the line of succession.

Harry should leave England and join the United States Army...

That would fix their wagon...

Could setting the stage for a legitimate excuse to keep Harry out be the reason for Britain's recent announced "troop reduction"?

As a reporter stated, Harry's presence in Irag would attract every fanatic islamite in the world like moths to a candle.

Not only would his life be greatly endangered, but every soldier there would face significantly greater risks.

I thought drawing out fanatic Islamites was a major point of the war. Flies to flypaper, moths to a candle, whatever you want to call it, I thought drawing out jihadis is a feature not a bug. Fight them there so we don't have to fight them here.

If Prince Harry can help with this military objective, then I am glad he is willing.
