Israel to hold nationwide nuclear attack drill
AFP ^ | February 26, 2007

Posted on 02/26/2007 8:51:03 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Israel will next month stage its first-ever nationwide drill simulating a nuclear and chemical missile attack on its cities, rescue services said Monday.

The exercise was initiated by the army's homefront corps in the wake of last summer's war in Lebanon and Iran's calls for the destruction of the Jewish state and its controversial nuclear programme.

Israel suspects is Iran is aiming to develop an atomic bomb, but Tehran insists its programme is for civilian energy purposes.

The main scenarios which will be simulated are a massive rocket attack on cities as well as a "conventional and non-conventional missile attack," Magen David Adom rescue services spokesman Yerucham Mandola told AFP.

During the drill -- which will include army rescue forces, police, medical and firefighting services -- air-raid sirens may be sounded across the entire country.

The Hezbollah militia fired over 4,000 rockets against northern Israel during the war last summer, killing more than 40 civilians and paralysing the region's industry and economy.

During the 1991 Gulf War, Israeli citizens were equipped with gas masks out of fear of a chemical attack. None of the missiles fired from Iraq against Israel were equipped with chemical warheads.

A sturdy table in a basement, stocked with food and water for 48 hours can save lives.

For a nuke attack? Are you a comedian in your other life?

Yeah you're right -- your chances are better if you stand on your roof and film it with a video camera.

The most dangerous fallout occurs in the first 48 hrs - and then burns itself out. If you have clean water and food - and you minimise contact with windblown dust - your survival chance is greatly improved.

Better flash fried than tender roasted and coughing blood for a week before you become a vultures radioactive main course.

Is that an announcement that they are not going to pre-empt?

Make sure there's an extra iPod battery around somewhere too. For a nuke attack I prefer early Metallica and Peter Frampton.

Slug line for those who have been away from their MSM communication device for the past five years.

Israel should stand up in the UN & tell the world that a WMD attack on Israel will cause Israel to destroy the capitols of EVERY country that has consistently called for Israel's destruction, plus mecca & medina! Immediately & w/o warning to ANYBODY!

Perhaps then our world "leaders" can begin to understand the consequences of appeasement & inaction.

I think it is readiness for an Iranian retaliatory strike after Israel takes out their nuclear plants and missle launchers

"A sturdy table in a basement, stocked with food and water for 48 hours can save lives."

If you read about the 30 km Chernobyl exclusion zone, which is a no-go/ brief-go area 20 years later, your 48 hour estimate is a bit optimistic.

Furthermore, anyone within 100 miles of a nuke blast is gonna want to be 1000 miles or more away from the fallout, which can fall from the sky for days or weeks after a blast, over a huge area. So, there is gonna be a massive, terrified refugee problem soon after the blast.

If your interested, lookup fallout shelters. They want to sell their product, so they will scare the hell out of you, but much of their info is factual. They believe you need to stay in the shelter for 3 weeks or more until radiation levels are "safer", & then you must evacuate to an even "safer" area.

You are correct (and as to Chernobyl in particular which was not nuclear bomb and where the radioactivity was being pumped out like from a furnace) . But preparation is the key.

This is an interesting reference: http://www.ki4u.com/guide.htm

As is this: http://www.stevequayle.com/News.alert/06_Prep_tips/070201.nukes.html

Note figure 1.2 showing the half-life of the most common fallout.

I don't wish to distract from the main thrust of the article, but; 100 rockets to every "kill"? No wonder they're dying to go nuclear (no pun intended).
