KABUL, Afghanistan — An explosion outside the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan went off Tuesday as Vice President Dick Cheney was visiting, causing an unknown number of casualties but apparently not putting the vice president in danger, officials said.

The blast happened at the first gate outside the base at Bagram, and there were an unknown number of casualties, said Kabir Ahmad, the district chief of the Bagram region.

The DUmmies are already starting in with posts expressing regret that V.P. Cheney's OK, or that it's all staged to gain sympathy.

PSYOP - The next story will ask "How many more people must die just to keep Dick Cheney safe?

This will be another propaganda attempt, by trying to keep our leaders from further trips out there.

Over five years in Afghanistan, nation building, military and police building, etc.

And the hearings with experts reveals a standstill--with little infrastructure in place. Billions flushed down a rathole, trying to catapult primitive, often hostile culture into present times.

I wonder if the whole approach for Afghanistan and Iraq is flawed, for want of some really big bangs.

Here's a picture of him showing that he's okay. But he does look a little stressed out.

Sad and scary - sad that people died, scary that our vice-president was so close to it.

My opposition to President Bush flying to the Middle East and stopping in Afghanistan or Iraq has just risen.

It's noticeable that the Vice President is apparently stepping up his public activities. I hope this is not indicative of President Bush being fatigued.

Do they see how their Rhetorica against the President and our troops is emboldening our enemies?
