" . . . when it was announced that the visit with the Afghan President had to be postponed due to bad weather . . . "
Miss that. I thought he was still in SE Asia.
I would suspect there's a lot of disinformation going on about this trip. Perhaps they had received a warning that something was up and were trying to confuse the plotters. Obviously, if all the enemy was able to pull off was a suicide bombing outside the base, even though they did manage to get some of the good guys, it wasn't an impressive success for them.
I'll feel better when Cheney gets home.
I awoke to the news of the Vice President's close brush with Islamic madmen, and got on my computer before going to work to post to you. I quickly scanned the thread. Thanks goodness he's OK.
I agree with you about the speculation, which got started with the false story over the weekend that his plane had experienced mechanical problems and was headed to Singapore. That seems to have happened when someone in the media got wind of the plane's westbound route and asked PM Howard about it during a news conference. Remember his vague answer about landing in Singapore due to unspecified mechanical problems? I think he tried to provide the VP with an off-the-cuff cover story.
Anyway, once it got out he was heading in that direction, anyone with an IQ above room temperature could take a pretty good guess as to where he might be headed. So the Islamic killers were able to put a hasty plot together.
You'll note on weekends that information about the presidential schedule is more sketchy than it used to be. I have to hunt around for information in public sources because it's no longer handily found on the WH website. I'm convinced this is due to security reasons, as both GWB and RBC are getting much more than the typical amount of threats leaders get on their lives. Often what I find about their appearances in the media is not announced directly by the WH, but by officials from the location where the presidential and vice presidential advance teams have arrived.
