"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is discovering the cold truth about governing with a slim majority: It's much easier to promise behavioral change for Congress than to deliver it."

No offense to Reilly and VandeHei, but this isn't something Pelosi just discovered. False promises are standard procedure for politicians, and the Democrat-ick party is masterful at it.

But, for leaders of both parties, the reality of ruling with a narrow majority translates into tight controls over floor debate, cozy relations with lobbyists and accommodating the needs of lawmakers (who hate working long weeks).

Politico.com is pretty much a creation of the WaPo. Hence, this article is pretty much an apologia for Nazi Pelosi. She can't help it, the poor dear, she wants to do good, but, well, how could she know it would be so difficult.

This site is going to pretend to play it straight, but don't be fooled(And I'm sure that you are not).

if we had re-elected the republicans things would have notbeen much better.

The RINO's deserve everything they get for letting their base down.

I only can hope this leads to a new Gingrich-like renewal of conservatism in 2008

Look, all that's going on here is what Newt and the GOP did to the Democrats in 1995.

Nothing to see here folks.

I'm not disappointed in "Grandma Mimi." This is just what I expected: Nothing. Except she gives great aid and comfort to the enemy of the United States. That is deplorable. Shame on her.

Are we halfway to the first 100 hours yet?

No surprise, especially from the jet-limosine, arrogant socialist lout, Pelosi. Lying and deceit are standard fare. It seems to be a disease in Washington, ESPECIALLY among ThugoRats, that is spreading and getting worse.

Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a congressional watchdog organization, said Jefferson's reelection put the new speaker in a bind.

CREW - a congressional watchdog organization - HAH. CREW is a liberal activism organization. It must have really galled Melanie to criticize the Jefferson situation. Oh, and Sloan - the executive director of this "congressional watchdog" group - has also worked as minority counsel for the House Judiciary Committee for then-ranking member John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.). Some watchdog!

Forget elected representative government. Melanie Sloan can take down your congressman with a flick of her wrist.

Gosh, I would have never thought that Pelosi is just a typical bag of far left wind. The way she accepted the crown (gavel) you would have thought she was Queen of US.

"Pelosi had to put him (Jefferson)somewhere."

Says who? If she was all she claimed to be, she could have said "I'll give you an assignment when the charges are cleared up - right now you're a liability to the party." She's an idiot, and the rest of the country is learning that fast.

They stomp their feet about the mandate they've received. Here's my question and I'd appreciate any pointers for researching same my fellow Freepers can offer: Did the newly elected frehsmen Democratic Congress critters receive MORE votes in their districts than the previous Democrat candidates (i.e., did they take votes away from their Republican opponent), or did the Republicans simply not vote for their candidate, but did not vote for the Democratic candidate? I thought this election was more about disgust with the RINO's that had betrayed the Party than it was about getting Dems in - witnessed especially by the fact that so many of the Dem candidates ran center/right instead of center/left.
