CHICAGO (Reuters) -- Navistar International Corp. said Monday that it had stopped shipping diesel engines to Ford Motor Co. that power the automaker's key F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks because of a contract dispute.
Navistar builds the 6.4-liter Ford Power Stroke diesel engine for the 2008 Ford F-Series Super Duty, a key launch this year for the automaker in its move to rebound from billions of dollars of losses in recent years.
The truck and engine maker said Ford had stopped honoring terms of its agreement with Navistar and it would halt production for the automaker immediately.
"We shipped the last engines to Ford last week," Navistar spokesman Roy Wiley said.

Looks like Ford is between a rock and a hard place right now. Their big diesel cash cow just got a punch in the gut. The last engines were delivered last week, and the factory makes 800 engines daily.
Looks like the new 6.4L twin turbo for 2008 isn't going to happen for the time being...

If it's a cash cow for Ford, then I wonder why would they stop honoring the agreement?

Interesting in that currently Ford is advertising the heck out of the F-450 Superduty.
I like the tailgate step they came up with.
Right now the Chevy Silverado is cleaning Ford's clock. I really like the Dana locker they came up with for the Chevy.

Good question. The Powerstroke Superduty is the most popular heavy pickup in the country. And they're promoting the hell out of the F-450 for 2008 with a new 6.4L twin turbo.

The best thing Ford could do is replace the powerchoke with a Cummins turbo Diesel, with an Allison transmission. I would buy it before noon tomorrow.
This engine is rated with 350 horsepower at just 3013 rpm. The 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel achieves a peak torque of 650 lb-ft at 1500 rpm for the automatic transmission configuration and maintains that peak torque all the way to 2800 rpm (a "best in class" capability for a heavy-duty diesel pickup) and a full 610 lb-ft peak torque for the manual transmission.

The "POWER-JOKE" diesel is the laughing stock of the industry.
Part of the problem lies in the new emissions standards for 2007. The engines have lost all fuel economy, and are barely getting Big Block era results. (8-10 miles per gallon).
The problem is not the engines, but poor Ford engineering. The engines also have Oil leak problems, poor performance and several other discrepancies.

The Duramax equals those results. They are pretty much identical. A properly chipped Duramax develops over 500 Hp.
The engines also hold up over hundreds of thousands of miles. Cummins is comparable but not superior.

It's junk. gets about 8-10 miles per gallon. They missed the new emissions standards by a mile. The Transmissions are also suspect.

The difference is that the Cummins is a stepped-down medium-duty engine, whereas the Duramax and PowerStroke are light-duty engines specifically designed for pickup trucks. The duty cycle is longer for the Cummins (though probably only by 100,000-150,000 miles). A properly-chipped Cummins can clear 1000 horsepower, and still be driveable.

In another article, it said that Navistar did not re-imburse Ford for some recall charges or other problems that occurred in previous diesel engines and both sides are disputing who owes what for the recalls. So Navistar decided to stop shipping engines.

The international motor built for ford was in greyhound and trail-ways buses for years before they were put in a pick up truck. And if you think you can produce more horse power with a six cylinder than a v8 you need to call john force up and ask for a job.
