Along with millions of other people, I was watching the Oscars last night, checking out the dresses. (Personally, I found Penelope Cruzs the most beautiful and tasteful of the night...)
But as the throngs of celebrities greeted Al Gore as a secular saint, I wondered if this might usher in a backlash against environmentalists. It wasnt too long ago, afterall, that environmentalists were decried as tree-huggers, and former President Bush railed against them trying to say it was the spotted owl against logging interests and jobs in the West.
Gore has repeatedly said the environment is not a Democratic or Republican issue; its a moral issue. But now that Hollywood has so completely embraced the former vice president, one wonders if this issue will be associated only with liberal causes. The Oscars may give Gore's critics ammunition to reject a school of thought thats been validated by countless scientists worldwide. Some people I know latched on to a recent Gore global warming conference that was cancelled because of a snowstorm.
And yet, after a period of time of not conceding global warming even exists, President Bush used the term "climate change" for the first time and has talked about a way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. It seems like were reaching critical mass when it comes to this issue. And all the experts agree. Well, almost every expert. (There are a handful of scientists many of them on the payroll of big oil companies who wonder if global warming is a reality.)
But my fervent hope is that Hollywoods embrace of Al Gore doesnt give people an excuse to condemn and mock the effort and oppose taking steps that we as a society need to take to deal with the issue of climate change. Some people find anything trendy repugnant, but this is a trend thats really important.
Senator Barbara Boxer, the new chairman of the Environment Committee, told us that "global warming is not just a warm day in January, it is a threat to the delicate balance of the planet." And many conservatives, too, share this view. Conservatives like Brent Scowcroft, the former Bush national security adviser, Lee Thomas, Ronald Reagans EPA Administrator, and Theodore Roosevelt IV. All of them and many others would say exactly what Gore says.
Because she's an idiot.
I would make a remark about the "College of Arts and Crafts" here at U.Va. (Katie is a CLAS alumna) except I might start a flame war. (I'm in the E-School.)
If I posted what I was thinking - I'd get banned.
However, the the janitorial staff may need to address the chair she was sitting in when this was written.
Al Gore is a sad crackpot basking in the fickle limelight of the Hollywood airhead set, who were into kaballah yesterday, are into "global warming" today, and will take up something else even more ridiculous tomorrow.
And Al will continue playing Chauncy Gardener in his own version of BEING THERE.
Probably because this was the extent of mental gynmastics Ms. Couric performed in college:
*cough* Which is why I chose this screen name in the first place. Imagine a varmint that can basically ruin an entire industry...
What a twit she is!
Yes she looked hot, but my vote goes to Gweneth Paltrow who turned me into a salivating werewolf. AWOOOOOO! Damn, I hate her personality, but God strike me down if she didn`t ooze utter and absolute hotness! Don`t believe me? Check IT out...

Talk about a perfect bod, not too fat not too skinny. She looked like a mermaid from my wetest dream! BANG ZOOM AWOOOOO!
Of course by now we know all about Mr. Gore's excess use of power of all kinds. No wonder he wants everyone to use less, to make more for him.
St. Prius.
Is Katie real journalist I doubt it
So it's not just conservatives that noticed the worship of Gore at the Academy Awards. Even the left thought it a little ridiculous. (Hands clasped, tears in eyes, heads nodding up and down as Gore spoke - ridiculous! I wish I had a screen capture of some of the faces in ecstacy)
The only reason that Katie didn't mention this was Gore was a Democrat. If Gore had been a Republican, this article would have been spiked with venom.
When I first heard of "Katie Couric's Notebook," I instantly imagined this pink notebook with cute stickers galore. It might have "Katie!!" in big magenta cursive, with a border of stars and the "i" dotted with a heart. The one exception to the cuteness is "BUSH!!!" in scratchy block script with a red X over it.
What it all boils down to is liberals got nothing. They had something when the buses and water fountains were separated by race. They had something when workers were told to go into the mine or go home. They had something when only men could vote. Today they got nothing.
bttt
Brent Scowcroft is a TRAITOROUS POS. Katie is a loser twit.
