WASHINGTON -- Senators Edward M. Kennedy and John McCain are set to introduce a revised version of their sweeping plan to overhaul the nation's immigration laws, in a bill that's likely to restart a tense debate in Congress.
The measure, which is being drafted in consultation with the White House, will largely mirror the immigration bill that stalled last year, according to lawmakers and aides involved in the process. That measure was blocked primarily because House Republican leaders were adamantly opposed to provisions that would have allowed undocumented immigrants to become US citizens.

I found this statement of particular interest:
The bill's sponsors are still discussing whether to require undocumented immigrants to register at a US port of entry in order to qualify for citizenship. Though some immigrant-rights groups warn that meeting that qualification would be a burden for low-income families...
It's going to be too late, I'm afraid, and revenge against McCain accomplishes precious little. Unless this bill is defeated, we're going to have 20-million illegals dumped upon us with no way of getting rid of them.
No way W vetoes anything.
We've got several Republican presidential candidates (Hunter and Romney) claiming that they're going to start imposing fines on businesses who hire illegals. But unless we head off this surge, we're going to get stuck with these invaders forever...
I agree, now tell us how do we head off the surge? Call my commie Rep?
Even though I knew this was coming, it still makes me nauseous. McCain must have nothing but contempt for the Conservative base and thinks he can win the Republican nomination without us.
He's still running to the right of Rudy.
The measure, which is being drafted in consultation with the White House,
nice..
Again, nothing against anyone who's here legally. It's just that so many of our immigrants aren't.
Does McConnell have the votes to filibuster?
They won't be eligilbe for citizenship for about 12 years, but I'm sure they will continue to be eligible for federal and state social/welfare programs. The drain on state and fed budgets is going to kill us.
"we're going to have 20-million illegals dumped upon us with no way of getting rid of them."
One of the plans introduced last year, opened the door for as many as 100 million aliens to be eligible for *worker* status. My question: What happens when these people are given the same rights as us and aren't *cheap Labor* anymore?
You're umm, ahh,...... not supposed to ask that question.
Don't forge the anchor babies and their vote. They will vote for every socialist candidate that promises their madre and padre a free ride for all of their 'troubles'.
The Latino groups are poised to tackle that little issue next. I envision a Million Man March for higher wages, etc.
McCain and Kennedy are going to destroy this country..

"They will vote for every socialist candidate"
Due to the fact nearly every Fed Pol with an Hispanic last name is either a RINO or a Lib, they won't have to look far for a candidate.
If the RNC selects an *open borders* candidate for their nominee, I would greatly support the formation of a Third Party. Even though Perot's party eventually gave us the Clinton admin, his prophecy of the Mexican invasion has become all too real.
And this clown wants to be the GOP presidential candidate in 2008!
Forgetaboutit
I hope we are not repeating history. Ford needed factory workers and we imported millions of foreigners in the early 1920's. When the economy slowed there were suddenly millions additional workers with nowhere to work. The building boom may be slowing. What happens to these skilled and semi-skilled new immigrants then. Oh right. Now we have welfare. But do we have the money to support another 10 to 20 million 'Americans '?
That's what's like to know also but nobody brings it up in any of these stories, they're all written as if it's a done deal, just as they did last year. Congressman Bilbray recently stated many Republicans in the Senate won't go along with Kennedy's scam this time and I hope he's right.
In 2002 it was Robert Byrd who blocked amnesty and saved the day. Sheets, do your stuff!
I wouldn't look for help from that quarter. McConnell voted for Amnesty in 2006.
