The top U.S. intelligence official says Russia has taken a step backward in its democratic progress.
Mike McConnell (in photo), who became U.S. Director of National Intelligence last week, told a Senate committee on February 27 that Moscow could be heading toward a controlled succession to President Vladimir Putin in 2008.
He said there were "more arrangements to control the process and the populace and the parties to the point of picking the next leader of Russia."
Putin's second term expires next year, and he is constitutionally barred from seeking a third consecutive term as president.
where and how in the hell do they get these morons?
common US citizens have known this for a few years now?
Yup, I agree.

I begin to feel sorry about american "national intellegence":). If he is the general intelligentor then America should worry:).
I have been posting here for the last two years that the Cold War is back on. It started when ALGORE took a large sum of aid to Russia during the Clinton administration. They put the money right back into building and repairing their military.
How much does the Putin's Kremlin actually pay you to counter every fact about today's Russia on FR?
In the early 1990s the Russian submarines did not leave port. After Clinton and ALGORE they went back to sea. Most of the submarines were tied up for three years. I still don't know why Clinton is not in jail.

That is because I'm dissident with long history:). I'd like to contradict the opinion of majority especcialy if I'm sure that it is biased and far from reality. When you learned how to understand Russia adn stop demonising Putin and turn to realy analysis I be very glad to help.
