Did Rudy marry his SECOND COUSIN? I assume the first wife....
Question: Where exactly was this huge pool of Freeper-quality conservative lawyers in New York City, ready, willing and qualified to be lower-court judges, that Rudy could have appointed and ignored instead?
"Question: Where exactly was this huge pool of Freeper-quality conservative lawyers in New York City, ready, willing and qualified to be lower-court judges, that Rudy could have appointed and ignored instead?"
Amen, brother.
So,you're saying there were no good Republican lawyers in New York available?
I'd be willing bet otherwise.
Giuliani on Hannity: VIDEO AND TRANSCRIPT
So what I do say to conservatives because then you want to look at well okay what can we look to that is similar to the way you think. I think the appointment of judges that I would make would be very similar to if not exactly the same as the last two judges that were appointed. Chief Justice Roberts is somebody I work with, somebody I admire. Justice Alito, someone I knew when he was US attorney, also admire. If I had been president over the last four years, I can't think of any-- that I'd do anything different with that. I guess the key is and I appointed over 100 judges when I was the mayor so it's something I take very, very seriously. I would appoint judges that interpreted the constitution rather than invented it.
Rudy contends he'll apoint conservative judges. Gives his reasons, those he admires, GWB's apointments which he supports, he'll take it seriously, but also asks us to look to the 100 judges he appointed as mayor.
Rudy put the apointments in play, the same way John "Reporting for Duty" Kerry brought his military record to the center of the campaign.
When Rudy was cleaning up the streets, the NYT was running front page stories arguing the tramps who would wash your car windshield in traffic and demand money should not be stopped because they were ex convicts! That is NYC.
See post 25.
Rudy himself cited his NY experience as supporting his contention that's he'll appoint conservative judges. So it's a legitimate inquiry. IMO the only answer is to point to the conservative, even if only on crime, judges he appointed.
Apologetics about the appointment system or political makeup of the legal community are irrelevant.
Rudy pointed to his 100 judicial apointments as evidence of his judicial conservatism.
Now it's "Where's the Beef" time.
You didn't parse that right. He pointed to those appointments as evidence that he took the appointment process SERIOUSLY. As apparently he did, since he got such high praise from the abortion-rights crowd.
nice cherry picking of his numbers..

You Rudybots are so cute. You signed up TODAY to share that with us!
actually, I signed up yesterday... ;)
bump
..this morning on Laura Ingraham's show, someone claiming to be a former NY cop (IIRC) called in and indicated that the judges who were appointed by the mayor were very very liberal...
Well, you might need a new screen name. Your tagline will still work, though.
;-)
Rudy: "I would like to run on the Democratic line if I could figure out how to do it" and other precious gems
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I hadn't checked YouTube for a couple of days and this new video is pretty damning for Giuliani. It includes actual video of some of the quotes that the Stop Rudy people have been posting and that the Rudyites have been denying. It shows the REAL Rudy - the radical liberal, anti-Republican Rudy who has no business running for the Republican nomination.
Pinging the list...
This deserves its own thread with a transcript. I don't have time right now to do that but will do it later if someone doesn't beat me to it.
