marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.
If you look a little further into this I think you'll find Cheney, Bush and Halliburton involvement. This was no accident. /sarc off

Have you ever asked yourself why Switzerland was not attacked during 2 world wars fought (in part) on the European continent? Perhaps those Swiss you so quickly dismiss know something you don't. Because they let the other Euros bleed and die for their benefit.
There were two Swiss detatchments serving with the NATO and UN KFOR forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina, headquartered in Sarajevo from 1996 to 2001, SHQSU and SWISSCOY, and their use of their MOWAG Piranha heavy armoured cars was noted very carefully by those envisioning the future US Army Stryker Brigades.
If you don't know about the KFOR troops in the yellow berets, ask someone who was there about them.

Truth is strange as fiction. I think there was something like this in The Onion once as a joke, and now it really happened!

Yeah - they're small - but I wouldn't want to be the country that tried to take them on. They would bleed you to death.Plus they have universal conscription -- every 18 year old gets drafted and trained. The entire adult population in Switzerland knows how to effectively handle weapons.

Seriously....wouldn't you notice it if Swiss Guards invaded?

It wasn't my response. It was her response I understand that. I just wanted you to have some more accurate information.
Another interesting thing is the official policy of the Swiss government towards any talk of surrender. It's enshrined in their law that anyone in the Government who claims to surrender to an invading army is to be immediately branded a traitor and shot on sight.
I'd say there are some folks in Washington who should thank their lucky stars we don't have such a law.

Switzerland has been described as "not a nation with an army, but an army that became a nation"

Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers,Appenzellers. They thought it was an invasion of turtles...

Actually, ours.
Google photos of NG troops in airports after 9/11.
No magazine in the wells = no ammo.

That's what the tourists see. You don't see the cats with leather jackets and MP5s.
Ever wonder why muzzies have left the Vatican alone?
The Swiss used to provide large mercenary armys throughout Europe waaaaay back in the day. Now, by law, the Swiss are forbidden to work as mercs - with the exception of the Swiss Guard, they were grandfathered in. Talk about a 'unit history'!

Also, most of the soldiers that came to our rescue after Katrina were sans ammo.

Ever been to Switzerland? It's not just tunnels, if you pay even a little attention you'll see it's so much more. For example, every choke point in every valley is sown with Dragon's teeth. Some of those charming chalets are machine gun bunkers. Every public building has fallout AND blast shelters.
It would be a very tough place to invade, let alone occupy.
And damm near everybody is armed...

What kind of army carries weapons but no ammunition? The Barney Fife Army!We often did tactical exercises without ammunition.

To everyone singing the praises of the Swiss military, I largely agree, but it bears reminding that the Swiss Army has not fought a war with a foreign enemy in two hundred years, so they have zero combat experience. Some of the advantages of their concept of defense by attrition that would have worked so well in WWII have been negated by technology. Furthermore the martial spirit of rabid independence is eroding in Switzerland. An active leftist movement seeks to abolish the army altogether, and as many as 40% of the citizens have voted to do just that.
Others who may have served with them may know their effectiveness, but I believe the Swiss military of today does not have the same kind of teeth it did a generation or so ago. Of course, they have no worries for any sort of continental European war as they did a hundred years ago either, and they have no desire to project forces outside their borders, so deterrence is their best weapon.
To: definitelynotaliberal
The Swiss Army was obviously not on the defense as they were not hidden in the tunnels of the Alps.
