Of course getting people off welfare is a good thing. However, having a big government program to find people jobs is not what limited-government conservatives generally think of as a valid government purpose.

Given that we had welfare, we had to do something to get people off of it. But a lot of "conservatives" have become big-government conservatives, supporting things like the faith-based initiative reasoning that if government is giving away money we might as well grab some of it, and not taking the principled stand that government has no right to give away anybody's money.

I liked George Allen in part because when he was governor he actually TURNED DOWN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MONEY. People called him crazy, but that's what it will take to win back our freedom.

So yes, people OFF welfare = good. Rudy did a lot of good when he was mayor.

But, touting the "department of work" is not a fiscal conservative, limited-government position. It's just big government focused on a conservative outcome rather than a liberal outcome.

Well said, and I hope you stick around, although I'm not ready to call myself a Rudy fan (and never will on some issues, like Gore-bal warming, immigration, abortion and guns).

I live in Chicago and the papers had a field day with Keyes (who I voted for) but I never saw them claim he said anything like this.

Even if a real nuclear weapon went off in New York city, the answer to the question would still be "abortion".

When you are a Hight Priest of Conservative Purety, sometimes you need to use terms like "queer" in order to make your point that much more powerful...

Sorry, clicked too quick.

I wanted to ask who the "conservatives" you run with are.

I've had CPAC on all PM, no one has talked about queers.

Haven't called any candidates traitors.

Haven't called any candidates abortionists.

Yet, I'm sure, but I don't remember any successful Republican (or Democrat) Presidential candidates using those terms either.

Do you think it's because they've no interest in making powerful, persuasive statements, or that perhaps calling political opponents abortionists, queers and traitors isn't powerful and persuasive.

It's just strange to see a person who seemed supportive of George Allen for President now supporting Rudy Gulliani, who makes John Warner look like, well, Duncan Hunter.

You know I missed that first time through.

I have stated my case several times. Perhaps you've missed it.

Yes, without question Allen was my first choice, for Senate AND President. That didn't work out so well.

So, like I've said I have taken a close look at what I believe to be the key issues. That mainly being the war on terror, fiscal responsibility, leadership and electability.

When I compare Rudy to the remaining candidates in the field, there's no question who the best choice is.

You may be surprised that I am not the only George Allen supporter who is now backing Rudy. Former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore is heading up Rudy's campaign in Virginia.

In the end I will support the party nominee.

There the both of you go, trying to bait people by taking things way out of context again. It's obvious that neither of you read any of my posts closely or with logical understanding of what it was that I was trying to say. You merely twisted it into what you wanted it to mean.

Do you have any idea how it makes you look? Forget about me. The both of you get ALL the recognition.

As long as there are girls who disappear (white pretty girls) there will be little political or important news of note. This has been obvious for a couple of years now.

And yet, not a peep against a candidate who endorses Democrats for high public office, appoints Democrats to the bench at an 8 to 1 ratio over Republicans,

Yup, the GOP is not a cult yet, but keep hope alive.

Your comment that Rudy is fungible with the Dems is just one of those comments that depreciates the coin of your credibility and judgment (in my humble opinion of course). It is not all about gays, guns and abortion you know - - it really isn't. You might find this hard to believe, but some voters, including other GOP voters, are also interested in other issues. What a concept!

Mitt and Hunter are my second tier candidates. They each have issues and in my mind those issues are no less serious to me than the social issues are to the people who don't like Rudy.

Rudy is clearly my favorite candidate and has been for long before he announced.

But as long as ideological purity trumps character -

Start with a false attack on your opponents that they seek purity.

nasty, vitriolic attacks are going to be allowed here

Follow it up with projection.

and good, decent, kind and intelligent people will be pushed away.

And then the whine to close the deal.

Of course, you don't play any part in all that, do you? You're clean as the driven snow.

We'll see. San Francisco banned Handguns in November, we'll see how the SCOTUS handle it -- if it gets there.

JimRob's posts on this subject have NOT been filled with hate, misinformation, spam or disinformation. They are merely well considered opinions. We had a long exchange last week and there were no insults.

Hmmm ... I'm curious what you consider the proper context for slurring your opponents as being Klan or Taliban. This should be good.

Exactly! Never understood someone being called a draft dodger when they received deferrments that were above board and legal.

After my 4 years of deferrment I enlisted, so I'm only half traitorous draft dodger.

I read on one of the less contensious threads where information could be provided that Rudy spent 2 years in Air Force ROTC, and was dropped because of vision problems.
