Beslan Massacre began when armed Muslim terrorists[1] took more than 1,200 school children and adults hostage on September 1, 2004, at School Number One (SNO) in the Russian town of Beslan in North Ossetia.
On the third day of the standoff, gunfire broke out between the hostage-takers and Russian security forces. Three-hundred forty-four civilians were killed,[2] 186 of them children,[3] and hundreds more were wounded.
