Let's be fair to the guy unless/until we know more. He may have been eager to get them away from their dangerously insane mother, and feared that Belgian courts would automatically award her custody if he split with her. They certainly would have been safer with their father in Morocco than they were with their mother in Belgium. It's not even clear that he actually WAS planning to take the children to Morocco. The article just mentions "allegations" that he had such a plan, without citing any source. Perhaps the source was the mother's letter to her friend -- if so, the source was a woman who just murdered her 5 children by slashing their throats, and I'd definitely want corroboration from a sane person before assuming the allegation to be true. Morocco isn't a hotbed of extremist Islam. And I can't help that recall that Andrea Yates was an even crazier religious fanatic than her husband, and she had exactly the same idea of what would be "better" for her children.
