BCC leaders throw out teacher's suspension

Bellevue Community College leaders have thrown out a one-week unpaid suspension for an instructor who wrote a racially insensitive math question that sparked a national controversy last spring.

(snip)

A few years ago, Ratener wrote a question that presented a scenario about a person named "Condoleezza" throwing a watermelon off a roof.

School officials said this demeaned U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and employed a racist caricature of blacks eating watermelons that dates to the 1800s.

A student complained last spring, and by April the issue had become a national story. Some in the black community said Ratener should be fired.

(snip)

Floten decided to drop the suspension Feb. 14. A letter of reprimand will remain in Ratener's file.

Apparently I'm the one to break this news to you Amy, but a whole lot of us in the "white community" said the same thing.

Can you imagine what the final ruling would have been if any Conservative teacher did same thing using a Liberal Black?

It would have been daily wall-to-wall national news coverage until he was not only fired but sent to the "racial sensitivity training" gulag.

A mob of ten thousand mainly white liberals would burn the college to the ground and do the same to the teacher's home.

He would never be able to work as a teacher again and would die in the gutter as a broken alcoholic.

No use in comparing punishment any longer.

Ipso Facto, Liberals are racist.

Conservatives are not permitted to be racist, and thats a good thing.

Next time I hear some liberal complain about Katrina or some other "injustice", hes going to get an ear full...
about Robert Byrd, like:

"What do you expect, we have racist democrats in control of the Senate!"

I have no doubt.

Apparently if you're a liberal college professor, using this sort of imagery around your students as instructional material is really not such a big deal.

Washington State is a leftist dump. Leftists are always willing to give fellow leftists a pass. They are unprincipled hypocrites.

What is up with Washington State

Please don't blame the entire state; the Leftist hysterics are mainly centered in King County (Seattle).  There is an awful lot of 'red' in this 'blue' state, with Eastern Washington in particular being a traditional bastion of Conservatism and rationality,  The problem is that King County's population is so great that it drives elections and sets a (lousy) image for the whole state.

I've lived here my whole life and it's only gotten continually worse; it's a terrible embarrassment for those of us who aren't Socialists.

Same thing in my old state, where as, Philly and pro-union idiots from Pittsburg, Wilkes-Barre/Scraton areas would put PA in the blue, while most of entire rest of the state was a solid red.

I don't care what it would have been. This was the right decision.

I agree if it's a uniform across-the-board punishment for EVERYONE.

We disagree. I'm against the PC police in the classroom whether imposed by the left or right. The man apologized for the question and has an excellent teaching record and doesn't deserve this kind of witch-hunt. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a conservative/libertarian organization, has defended his academic freedom, and should be applauded for it.

BTW, as a result of the conservative over-reaction to this incident, BCC has imposed mandatory (left-dominated) "diversity training." If you want to know more, just google the name of Glenn Singleton (who head's the leftist thought police firm which is making big bucks off this "training." This is the real story here, not some professor who wrote an idiotic math question.
