They are crude and inappropriate words, to be sure. I don't use them to make personal smears. The vast majority of conservatives don't use them to make personal smears. But that isn't the point. The left's control of our language is the point.
The left has an large and ever-expanding lexicon of "mere words" that it has made the basis for controlling the public discourse and for punishing people who don't buy into the left's worldview. Recently there has been talk of criminalizing global warming denials. This is a logical consequence of the left's assault on language.
At the same time the left uses its own privileged vocabulary of hate to smear and demean people like Ann Coulter, Dick Cheney, and George W. Bush freely and without consequence.
That's the battle. And we're losing it. Critics of Coulter on the right are assisting the enemy to achieve its victory.

Yep, I've been reading her blog from the very beginning in 2004. So what. I also send story ideas to Matt Drudge which he has linked to many times within minutes, to Sean Hannity which he has used on radio and H & C, other nationally syndicated talk show hosts, to local talk show hosts, to many milbloggers, etc.
I think less of MM after reading her take on this. First of all, she didn't call Edwards a "faggot" outright. She alluded to it. Big difference. She was artful in how she did it.

Very well said. Ann is going over the top in these two cases completely and is losing her ability to be a top spokesperson for the conservative movement.

I defend her right of free speech as a private citizen and to ridicule public figures. If Edwards doesn't like it, let him use the libel laws. This is all much ado about nothing. The Left has seized on something Ann said to discredit her and the Conservative movement, something they have done repeatedly to her before and to others who dare criticize the church of liberalism or step across some verbal line of politically incorrect speech, except if they are Dems.
Ann is a political pundit and an entertainer. The MSM covers her events. A reporter from The Nation even asked her a question [about her personal life] during the same Q&A that elicited the Edwards response. Imagine, the Left feels compelled to attend the CPAC conference and ask Ann Coulter, private citizen, a question. Ann was, is, and will continue to be a target of the Left, which should be worn as a badge of honor. It is fiting testimony to her effectiveness at puncturing the Liberal theology and her ability to get them frothing at the mouth. Great political theater and for me, one of the major highlights of the conference. I enjoyed Ward Connerly's speech the most at the Reagan banquet. He was not PC either.
