Talking to a political crowd in North Spartanburg, S.C., last month, the former New York City mayor and 2008 presidential candidate was not there to excite but to warn; he was less interested in making political promises than he was in sketching out the perils we face. He spoke in the hushed tones of the day that marked him for history, September 11, 2001, his voice barely filling the somber setting—not a hotel ballroom or a church basement, but a firehouse, festooned with American flags.

STATEMENT OF REP. HUNTER IN VOTING AGAINST THE TRANSPORTATION BILL
The House and Senate approved a $218 billion transportation funding bill which included billions of dollars in questionable, non-transportation funding. A list of some of those projects follows Rep. Duncan Hunter's (R-CA) statement.
"At a time when the Army faces a shortage of $1.7 billion in basic ammunition and our Marines are short $193 million, the highway bill contains $9 billion in funding for such things as a botanical garden, museum exhibits and a film on ‘infrastructure awareness.'
"While I support funding to build and repair our highways and this bill has many good projects, I could not in good conscience vote for legislation which overspends the balanced budget and will possibly take money away from our national

HUNTER HONORED BY SMALL BUSINESS ORGANIZATION
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Duncan Hunter (CA-52) was presented with the "Guardian of Small Business" award this afternoon by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation's largest small-business advocacy group. NFIB President Jack Faris presented the award to Congressman Hunter for his voting record on behalf of small business owners in the 106th Congress.
"The record shows that when the roll is called, Representative Hunter has been a true and consistent advocate for Main Street small business," said Faris.
"I'm very proud to have received this award," said Hunter. "The small business community is a vital part of America's economy, but far too often, they are forced to function under too many regulations and heavy tax burdens. I believe this is wrong, and I will continue working to remove these obstacles and allow small businesses to earn their full potential."
NFIB tallied Congressman Hunter's voting record on 20 key small-business votes in the House of Representatives taken during the 106th Congress. Issues range from legal-reform measures, to regulatory relief, to a variety of tax-relief measures.

Last year all we pretty much talked about was immigration and how Republicans spent too much money. Now all they can talk about is abortion and gay marriage and guns. No way are politicians courting such a fickle group again, imo.

Giuliani said that he supports a ban on partial-birth abortion as long as there is a provision to protect the life of the mother. "If it has provision for the life of the mother, then I would support it," he said on Hannity and Colmes on Feb. 5th 2007.
Most conservatives would not consider that a good thing.
Of course, he then turned around and made not one, but TWO speeches to NARAL leftists elites to praise both Roe and Margaret Sanger.

Under embarrassing pressure from the victims' families, unions and state Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, Giuliani backed down. Likewise with the supporters of Mayor Giuliani. A small group of the more vocal ones throw insults around, and then try to play the victim. The "Rudy in drag" photos are a little overboard, but are minimal compared to the attacks made on folks who question the Mayor's conservative credentials.
