Pa. Still Likes GOP, but Looks for Moderation

Pennsylvania may just have given the Republican Party, and Rudy Giuliani in particular, some desperately needed good news. It came in the form of polling results provided by the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin and Marshall College.

The Keystone Poll found that if Pennsylvania residents decided today among the leading 2008 presidential contenders, either Giuliani or Sen. John McCain would defeat either Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama. Giuliani leads Clinton 53 percent to 37 percent, and he leads Obama 52 percent to 32 percent. McCain trumps Clinton 45 percent to 41 percent and Obama 43 percent to 37 percent. Those are startling findings, since 46 percent of Pennsylvania respondents told the pollsters they believed the Republican president was doing a "poor job."

Clearly, suburbanites are prepared to support a Republican presidential candidate who is tough on terrorists but moderate on social issues. Giuliani seems uniquely able to attract a majority of support from politically moderate Pennsylvanians. And it's significant that both Giuliani and McCain lead Clinton and Obama even in Southeastern Pennsylvania...

Wait until they find out what he's really like, then they'll drop him faster than a partial birth abortion Rudy likes so much.

Specter / Chafee 2008. An unbeatable combination.

That's because the MSM has the goods on Rudy, and they will reveal them once he gets the nomination.

I'm thinking that some people have no clue as to who can win and who can't. To not understand the electorate is to say that you don't want to be effective in politics.

Santorum lost in PA - and he is a great guy. It's funny that some think that PA is looking for a far right candidate(s).

Pa. Still Likes GOP

Smerconish is dreaming. Penna. hasn't voted for a Republican president since 1988. Penna. just ousted one of the Senate's finest conservatives and 4 Republican House members. The Penna. House of Representatives is controlled by the Democrat party and the Democrat governor just won a second term.

That state is so blue that the only hopeful thing for Republicans would be for it to lose multiple house seats in the next census.

Pennsylvania is really two states: Philadelphia its suburbs anb the rest of the state.

Philly and its suburbs are a liberal and Democrat and have a large number of voters. The areas outside of the major cities are mainly conservative and Republican - or so it would appear to me. A large number of New Yorkers, fleeing the liberal mess they created in their own turf, have relocated to the west side of the Delaware and the Poconos. Some of them even still live in New York City and commute to work from there.

Its very funny hwo people from the liberal urab cities create an environment they can't survive in, and then move out - only to re-create the same problems somewhere else.

In a choice between Hillery or Obama, and Giuliani or McCain, a large enough number of people in the Blue State of PA are likely to vote for McCain or Giuliani. So what? They didn't vote for Bush and he got in without them. Their problems will arise in the Red States, or even in states like PA once the Dems start exposing liberal candidates political views.

For every liberal vote Giuliani (McCain is pretty much dead in the water) picks up, the Repubs will loose at least ONE conservative vote.

Wow!
Rudy has even increased his lead over the she-devil in PA from the last poll.
Not looking good for Hitlery. She loses in NJ and PA and she is toast.

I am concerned that Hillary could take the northeastern states by choosing Ed Rendell as her running mate.

She is looking weaker and weaker, isn't she. I think the weekend at Selma hurt her as well - and the fake southern accent. Jeez. She is blowin' it.
