CIA Rushing Resources to Bin Laden Hunt

March 05, 2007 3:47 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

Armed with fresh intelligence, the CIA is moving additional man power and equipment into Pakistan in the effort to find Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahri, U.S. officials tell ABC News.

"Reports that the trail has gone stone cold are not correct," said one U.S. official. "We are very much increasing our efforts there," the official said.

People familiar with the CIA operation say undercover officers with paramilitary training have been ordered into Pakistan and the area across the border with Afghanistan as part of the ramp-up.

Although never publicly acknowledged, Pakistan has permitted CIA teams to secretly operate inside Pakistan.

Pakistan officials say they are aware that CIA teams have increased their presence in northern Waziristan since last September when Pakistan withdrew its troops from the area under a much-criticized "peace deal" with tribal leaders.

Is there a human being alive as stupid, arrogant and foolishly self-interested as a modern journalist?

Now that it's been announced, Bin Laden will move somewhere else. Just like Sadr did. Seems to be the pattern of this war.

I agree but somebody's telling the journalist and they have been doing this all along. This pattern has no doubt cost many lives already.

Brian Ross and the rest need to STFU. I don't want to know anything about this until they have him, or his remains. Broadcating what we are doing will not help in any way.

These new developments are interesting. May have something to do with Cheney's recent trip to the region.

Why does The President just sit back and do nothing about these 'officials' leaking strategic info to our enemies in the media and overseas?

Bin Laden is one slippery fish. Im sure everyone here knows that this is what he's known for...being able to hide. It's been his life long before 911 and he's even gained somewhat of a "mysterious" reputation of being able to evade governments seeking him. Some in the Middle East think it's a "magic". Though it's nonsense there is one thing for sure, he's probably somewhere atleast in the top 5 people in this world who can do it best.

Making these announcements will not help get him at all

It's a good thing we can keep a secret. (sarcasm)

Bet the Democrats are praying we don't catch them. Read my tagline.

Possibly one of the leaking CIA airheads.

I ask myself that everyday. It's definately slowing down the process and getting people hurt. Maybe this sounds too harsh but whoever in the government leaks this information should be hung in public. It's treason.

Given the reward at stake, I wonder if there aren't any independent folks in on this hunt too.
