CIA Rushing Resources to Bin Laden Hunt

March 05, 2007 3:47 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

Armed with fresh intelligence, the CIA is moving additional man power and equipment into Pakistan in the effort to find Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahri, U.S. officials tell ABC News.

"Reports that the trail has gone stone cold are not correct," said one U.S. official. "We are very much increasing our efforts there," the official said.

People familiar with the CIA operation say undercover officers with paramilitary training have been ordered into Pakistan and the area across the border with Afghanistan as part of the ramp-up.

Although never publicly acknowledged, Pakistan has permitted CIA teams to secretly operate inside Pakistan.

Pakistan officials say they are aware that CIA teams have increased their presence in northern Waziristan since last September when Pakistan withdrew its troops from the area under a much-criticized "peace deal" with tribal leaders.

Ben laden is dead.

No, he's not. Just like Zawahiri, Mullah Omar, J Haqqani & G Hekmatyar, and three other HVTs we've been after in the Afghan / Pak mountains for the past 5 years.....UBL remains alive and eking out a survival.

We have guys risking all 24/7 trying to track each of these men down....engaged nightly putting guns on targets...

The reality is most simply don't comprehend how difficult it is to operate in this region of the world (the Afghan / Pak border region). We are talking over 1,500 miles of border alone....with every earthly landscape from snow capped mountains to desert....An area where Pashtun tribal warlords are in complete control....and have been for more then the last century (the area is autonomous from the Pak Gov't).

It is really some of the most brutal terrain on earth.....Making sustained operations a complete nightmare.

UBL remains alive....but one of these days he is going to zig...our shooters will zag....and we'll put guns or a JDAM dead on his sorry as$...

Killing him is of much more value then most understand.
