Gunmen storm Iraq jail, free 140

Dozens of gunmen stormed an Iraqi jail in the northern city of Mosul on Tuesday and freed up to 140 prisoners in one of the biggest prison breaks since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, police said.

Militants attacked Mosul's northwestern Badoush prison just after sunset in the ethnically mixed city and overwhelmed police, who were forced to call the U.S. military for backup.

Most of the prisoners were believed to be insurgents, police said.

Saddam Hussein's nephew, Ayham Sabawi, escaped the same prison in December after he was accused of financing the Sunni insurgency against U.S. forces and the Shi'ite-led government

This prison has been poorly run, corrupt, and a problem for some time.

Now that it's empty, it shouldn't pose anymore problems.

The prison in Iraq should be for those people that have a use to the coalition forces and heavily guarded if they are such. If not, why are they still wasting oxygen?

That's ok. Next time our boys meet them, 140 carbon footprints will be reduced to zero.

"..overwhelmed police, who were forced to call the U.S. military for backup."

Why would any high value prisoners be left to the care and keeping of Iraqi's? I would think that securing hard won prisoners would be JOB ONE in that place.

This is why all captured terrorists should be shot after interrogation. If the Iraqis can't hold them, they should kill them.

Actually, Fox News just showed infrared video of a military aircraft following a "glowing" antiaircraft gun, mounted in a truck. The bad guys jump in the truck and take off, the tarp over the AAA conceals it on the ground but not its heat signature. The military aircraft follows the truck for a while, the bad guys park the truck and run into an open area. Suddenly, the screen lights up with gunfire from the aircraft, the truck explodes. Five seconds later, the four terrorists, who are huddled together in a field, explode. It was pretty cool. No wedding parties were decimated in this operation.

Unfortunately, that also gives them 140 more chances to take out some of our guys before they're dispatched to allah.

Its actually a good thing that the Libby verdict came out today as it distracts from the three big insurgent successes of killing 120 Iraqis, 9 Americans, and this.

Yeah, we wouldn't want anyone to have second thoughts about wildly successful surge, would we?

Bad days happen.

Good days also happen.

The goal is not to have the media only cover Iraq on the bad days and cover Brittney's hair on the good days.

I believe that the proper security enhancement would involve the words 'claymore' and 'mine'.

"Yeah, we wouldn't want anyone to have second thoughts about wildly successful surge, would we?"

Are you being sarcastic? In that case gee, thanks for validating the use of Islamic terrorism as a means of political influence.

If this were WWII you'd undoubtedly be watching Nazi film footage of US soliders being machine-gunned in their landing crafts on Omaha beach and would likely be making sarcastic remarks about how "wildly successful" the Normandy landings were.

I don't fault people such as yourself as much as the media for maximizing coverage of terrorist actions while minimizing Coaliton achievements. Some of us realize this. Some of us don't.
