Iraqi national carrying suspicious object detained at LAX
Los Angeles Times (free registration required) ^ | March 6, 2007 | Andrew Blankstein

Authorities today detained an Iraqi national who was carrying a suspicious object at Los Angeles International's Terminal One.

Los Angeles airport police held the man in a passenger screening area after security agents discovered at 5:40 a.m. that he was carrying a metal object, officials said.

A preliminary investigation of the man's bags -- which were taken off a flight that was scheduled to go to Philadelphia but diverted to Las Vegas -- found nothing hazardous or dangerous, authorities said.

The man has been turned over to Immigration and Customs authorities for additional questioning, officials said at an afternoon news conference.

The man was identified as Fadhel Maliki, 35, of Atlantic City, N.J., an Iraqi national who has been in the United States since 1994, according to Ethel McGuire, the FBI assistant special agent assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Maliki was going through preflight screening when he was pulled aside after acting suspicious, officials said. He had been previously flagged based on a travel profile, but officials refused to discuss details.

According to Larry Satters, federal security director at LAX, Maliki was concealing objects connected to wires from his body.

Apparently, this man had a metal object of some kind with wires protruding, hidden in a "lower body cavity".

No other details at this time.

If this assclown had ANYTHING in his anal cavity or otherwise secreted on his body -- he was testing the system or up to no good..

1. Immediately charge him with any crime necessary to hold him.
2. Check the legality of his presence in America.
3. Try him for ANY possible crime, and if not legally in the U.S. - deport him to spend his prison time in an Iraqi prison.
4. Implant a chip that renders him a PERMANENT unwelcome visitor to America and on a worldwide "no fly" list..

Oh -- and question him thoroughly before deporting his sorry ass.

From KTLA.

A suspect was arrested at LAX today after airport screeners noticed "wires" coming from the man's clothing during a security check. They later found what is being described as a "metal object" in the man's rectum. The incident began shortly before 6 a.m. at Terminal One.

The investigation is being conducted by the LAPD, the FBI and the Transportation Security Administration, Lowe said.

Officials say the U.S. Airways ticketed passenger was going through a screening machine when "he set off the alarms."

Pardon me for being stupid or naive, or whatever, but what would one carry in their rectum with wires protruding? I mean, other than a bomb (and that seems like a pretty uncomfortable place to carry one).

In prisons (I have no first hand experience) small metal containers are used to carry drugs, money, and other contraband. I can only imagine what else people carry.....

from your link:

Ethel McGuire, assistant special agent in charge of the Los Angeles FBI office, said this afternoon that al-Maliki had "a magnet, wires and I don't know what the other item was. It's being evaluated as we speak." After al-Maliki was searched, the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad was called to the airport to examine the suspicious item.

The MO is to take seperate parts of a bomb on board with you or to bring a part on yourself and retrieve other parts already hidden on board....assemble them and then detonate the bomb [ala Ramzi Youssef].

He was either putting parts on board or he was the trigger man.

Regardless, he's gotta go.
