True Unbeliever - Hirsi Ali
Washington Post ^ | March 7, 2007 | By Neely Tucker

So now, ladies and gentlemen, live from Somalia and the Netherlands! Give it up for new-to-Washington Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Muslim heretic, self-proclaimed "Infidel," whose memoir by that name is at No. 7 on the New York Times bestseller list!

It's a popping good story, fascinating, with lots of forward lean to the narrative. She's got guts, brains, looks, talent. She's called the prophet Muhammad a pervert. She says, "Islam is a culture that has been outlived." She has lost her faith, ditched two husbands and been disowned by her family.

This is a profile by the WaPo of Hirsi Ali, and every bit of attention that can be directed to this heroic, courageous woman is valuable.

But... the tone of the article! ..."some call her a sel-promoting traitor"... This woman has been chased from two countries with multiple, credible death threats - including the threat jabbed by a dagger into the bloody torso of filmmaker Theo Van Gogh . Let's contrast this rather mocking, cynical tone of the writer to the MS media adulation provided to the Dixie Chicks, who are not at all courageous, not serving the interests other than their own. They are held up as heroic and given (meaningless) grammy trophies by the left. What's your definition of a hero? Hirsi Ali fits my profile of courage.

Pray that this brave, bold, beautiful woman will find the peace of Jesus.

Bill Maher was trying so hard not to jump Hirsi Ali's bones when she appeared on his show.

When a true hero comes along, the sophisticated people can't do anything but sneer and jeer. But they will take seriously any second-rate political hack and they will worship any third-rate artist who profanes Christian symbols.

The attacks on the Trade Center were not by a "lunatic fringe," she said, but by the very center of the faith: "This was not just Islam, this was the core of Islam . . . [this was] not frustration, poverty, colonialism, or Israel: it was about religious belief, a one way ticket to Heaven."
