If the West must now choose between its survival and the survival of radical Islamic forces, we should choose our own survival
Nobody should underestimate the capacity of Middle East leaders for making bad situations worse. Headlines about the "agreement" in Mecca between President Mahmoud Abbas and the terrorist group Hamas implied that something agreeable had come out of the Saudi initiative to bring them together in a unity government. On the contrary. The terrible result of the weakness of Abbas a weakness of character and a weakness of his organization is that the conflict with Israel will torment still another generation of Palestinians. The agreement drove a stake through the heart of the two-state dream, because it left no one with whom the Israelis could make a peaceful settlement.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was left looking ill on her first joint meeting with Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, because the "moderate" Abbas had just pulled the rug out from under the United States. Abbas had been committed to disarming Hamas and calling early elections. Those might well have dislodged Hamas, since its obduracy has only increased the misery of ordinary Palestinians. Washington was supporting Abbas in this, but what does he do in Mecca? He agrees to share power with Hamas.

So-called "radical" Islam is really primitive Islam, that is, an attempt to return to Islam as it was originally proclaimed by its founder.
One of the founder's ideas was that Islam should be spread by force. He split the world into two camps: those who had were under control of Islam and those with whom Islam was at war to either conquer or force conversion. Islam present the unbeliever with Three Questions: convert, submit, or die.
Far too many people in the west are still in denial as to the commitment of advocates of this version of Islam to force the west to convert, submit or die. Over time, it will more and more become a war where there can only be one party left standing.

"Radical" comes from the Latin word "radix," meaning root, and actually does mean getting back to the roots of something. Throughout the history of Islam, every time contact with other civilizations or simply its chronic internal weakness and inability to support any form of functional society make it more "moderate," it is attacked by other radical Muslims until the moderates return to their roots and resume their aggressions against non-Muslims. There's no dealing with them.
We really do have to recognize that this is not a negotiable situation, and adapt our efforts on the basis of that knowledge.

Radical Islam is like the common criminal who when confronted by the police draws a weapon and force them to shoot him. It's a syndrome that's come to be known as "suicide by police". It's pretty obvious when it's a two-time loser determined to never be sent back to prison, but it's much harder to recognize when it's a worldwide movement. But after all is said and done the fact is that radical Islam is no different. They are putting themselves in the situation where the only way to respond to them is to kill them. Like the two-bit crook determined not to return to prison they would rather die than fail to force the rest of the world into their mold.
So, now that we've cleared that up, let's get busy and kill as many of them as possible. As the article says, there is simply no negotiating with these people.

All this talk and all that ever happens, is more concessions and more chaos....
Then when someone like Bolton comes onto the stage and calls them what they are, terrorist scum, the whole world goes ape.
We live in strange times.
