I'm sure those who castigate Rudy for his marital issues will come down just as hard on Newt.
Unless he had an affair with an illegal alien I don't really care about that.
Did he lie about it?
Thou shalt not make demands of hypocrites.
While I would prefer for politicians to be faithful, bear in mind, the worst President in our lifetime, Jimmy Carter, is a paragon of virtue in that area.
I think the anger is proportional to how good looking the mistress is.
It is with me in any case.
It seems to me that most folks who are against Rudy are motivated largely by his political positions. His private life is just fuel to the fire.
Everyone knows that Newt was a cad as well in his private life, but politically? he was a conservative rock.
I certainly don't castigate Giuliani for that. I only criticize him for his views, many of which I find abhorrent.
I'd rather have a fairly successful conservative with an imperfect marital record, then a liberal with an imperfect martial record pushing a leftwing agenda.
I sure will. I have NO use for ANYONE who commits adultery. Marriage is one of the most sacred vows anyone can ever make, and if a person can't even be trusted to uphold that, as far as I'm concerned I will never trust them for anything. As a result, I will NEVER vote for Newt.
"I'm sure those who castigate Rudy for his marital issues will come down just as hard on Newt."
You have a point.
As a worthy candidate for the highest executive office in the federal government, yes. Neither deserves the position.
Gingrich remains a force to be reckoned with on policy matters, but should shoulder the responsibility of advancing someone else of like mind toward the office. Rudy is quite frankly a hard-charging sideshow at-best.
just my two cents.
LOL. I'm sure those who castigate Newt for his marital issues will come down just as hard on Rudy. (/sarc)
I can't speak for others, but Rudy's problem isn't that he had 3 wives, although that certainly isn't a plus for him. It's that he is wrong on a host of issues.
However, Gingrich is no paragon of virtue. His resignation from the house was self-serving, as were his actions which lead to his being hit with ethical charges which, while overblown, weren't meaningless.
Gingrich is an ambitious man, who I think let power get to him. He was in many ways like Clinton, abusing power and authority. He didn't lie under oath, but he wasn't a "good man" with the power he was given.
I would vote for him in a general election, but he isn't my choice for a nominee, and I hope he doesn't enter the race because I can see him splitting the conservative vote and leading to a Rudy nomination.
My opinion is that Gingrich is trying to prop up Guiliani in the hopes that he can enter the race in the fall as the "conservative savior" to slay the Rudy beast.
I have, and will. Like the Little Red Rudester, Newt is not the answer.
Yes. We will.
Yep, this one will... As much as I love Gingrich in his conservative books on conservative subjects... I will not call a lump of coal a diamond.
What about if we don't like Rudy because of his view of the second amendment... can we still like Newt then? Or what about the abortion issue? Or gay marriage? Or immigration? Or judges?
Dear Darkwolf377,
"I'm sure those who castigate Rudy for his marital issues will come down just as hard on Newt."
Nah... Newt's not running for president.
Thus, he's just a run-of-the-mill pig.
A pig that I like, but a pig, nonetheless.
He certainly seems to be close to Mr. Giuliani's level of pigishness. He was apparently running around on wife #1 while still married to her, apparently with wife #2, even with two children at home. It's alleged he refused to pay child support or alimony. I find these two allegations difficult to believe, as usually it's a court that gets the say in these things.
But if all that is true, then that approximates Mr. Giuliani's pigishness when he informed his second wife via press conference of their impending divorce, and then tried to force her out of the marital home so that he could install his floozy.
Yep, both pigs.
I wonder, though, whether Mr. Gingrich forced his slut - the second wife - on his kid's, and said he wouldn't attend his kid's special events without the slut.
That would truly make Mr. Gingrich the equal of Mr. Giuliani, not that he's any prize in the alternative.

I consider it a major problem for both. And it annoys me a lot because I consider both of them otherwise worthy for the presidency, but their moral problems make them basically not qualified. Yet, when measured up against everyone else running, I might have to vote for one of them. At this point, if he is still running when I vote in the primary, I will vote for Duncan Hunter. Should he not be running and Fred Thompson has not joined the fray, then I have a much more difficult decision to make. McCain is unstable. Romney changes colors more than a chameleon which makes him lack character. So we're down to Guiliani and Ginrich IF Hunter isn't in (I hope he wins the nomination). Both are good on national defense. Gingrich at least is pro-life and holds other family values, even if he has not practiced them. So it narrows down to Newt. But he will still be damaged goods. Too bad.
I'm sure those who castigate Rudy for his marital issues will come down just as hard on Newt.
Don't count on it! For me... it just makes me really want Rudy to Win in 08!
