Women for sale in the Gatwick (England) slave auctions
This is London ^ | March 7, 2007

Posted on 03/09/2007 5:47:48 AM PST by NYer

Women are being sold into prostitution in modern day "slave auctions" at Britain's airports, it emerged yesterday.

The illegal immigrants are sold to the highest bidder for up to £8,000 a time. They are then forced to work in brothels where they can earn up to £800 a day for their "owner".

The chilling reality of human trafficking was spelled out yesterday by senior police officers at Scotland Yard.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ponting, of the Metropolitan Police, said young women from all over the world are trafficked into Britain after being promised well-paid work in bars or cafes.

But within hours of their arrival, they are sold to pimps. The youngest known girl victim was just 14.

In one notorious case, women were openly sold outside a coffee shop at Gatwick Airport.

Officers believe women are frequently raped, locked in flats and given no money to prevent them from running away from their captors.

Mr Ponting said: "There is some intelligence to suggest that individuals are sold at locations close to airports. One woman could fetch between £6,000 and £8,000. She could then earn her buyer £800 a day. It is appalling.

"These traffickers are making huge amounts of money from it and that is what we are trying to break. It has become a market.

"You have to remember the trauma and difficulties associated with this crime. Many of these women are so traumatised that it is just inconceivable they would give evidence in a trial.

"These women have been held against their will, raped many times and their lives have been ruined. That is why the courts treat this offence so seriously."

Commander Sue Wilkinson, also of the Met, added: "This trafficking has been reported as modern day slavery. I would not argue with that."

Scotland Yard yesterday launched a dedicated human trafficking team.

The 11-strong unit will be based in the capital and will seek to smash the gangs who force immigrants into brothels and sweatshops.

That may well be true, but it's irrelevant to this problem.

No it didn't. I've been reading about this for a year. That nothing's been done about it makes me think it might be a hoax.

US State Dept Trafficking (Human Trafficking) in Persons Reports

http://gvnet.com/humantrafficking/index.html
Human Trafficking & Modern-day Slavery

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland [map] is a constitutional monarchy located on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country comprises England; Wales; Scotland and Northern Ireland. The capital and largest city is London.

The United Kingdom is primarily a country of destination for trafficked women, children, and men from Eastern Europe, East Asia, and West Africa. Women are trafficked primarily for the purposes of sexual exploitation and involuntary domestic servitude, while men are trafficked for the purpose of forced labor in agriculture and sweatshop industries. The United Kingdom may also play a role as a transit country for foreign victims trafficked to other Western European countries.

The Government of the United Kingdom fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking. The United Kingdom handed down significant anti-trafficking prosecutions and sentences during 2004. The first prosecution under recent legislation that specifically criminalized trafficking for sexual exploitation resulted in a sentence of 18 years for the main offender. The parliament enacted new legislation to criminalize labor trafficking. The government continued to fund assistance to adult victims; however, its inability to accommodate the number of victim referrals was problematic. The government should prioritize establishment of a more stable mechanism to regularize victims’ status to ensure consistent delivery of services and protection. Moreover, differentiation of trafficking and smuggling statistics is recommended to better gauge year-to-year improvements. - U.S. State Dept Trafficking in Persons Report, June, 2005 [full country report]

Far More Lithuanians Sold Into Prostitution In Britain Since EU Membership

The number of young Lithuanian women sold for sex in Britain has increased from "single cases to dozens every month" since the Baltic state joined the European Union last year, the head of Lithuania's Interpol bureau said.

"Nightclub Girls Helped Me Escape Captivity"

The youngster, from Lithuania, says she was sold to a string of Albanian men who kept her prisoner in their homes, repeatedly raped her and forced her to work in brothels. The girl, who was allegedly tricked into traveling to the UK after being told she would work in a restaurant.

Tackle Child Exploitation, Ministers Urged

Based on reports from social services, police and immigration, it is known at least 250 children were trafficked into the United Kingdom between 1999 and 2003. UNICEF believes the true figure is much higher and that in the vast majority of cases children are brought in for labor.

Migrants Subject To Forced Labor In The UK

This report reveals that migrants who can legally work in this country are also shockingly badly exploited because they are unable to enforce their legal rights because of the power their employer has over them. The report, 'Forced Labor and Migration to the UK' reveals abuse, including very long hours, pay below the minimum wage and dangerous working conditions in a range of sectors including construction, hospitality, agriculture, food processing, horticulture, contract cleaning, nursing and care homes. Employers and agencies who break the law are rarely prosecuted or even inspected by the authorities.

Migrant women forced into cheap sex trade

London is witnessing a rising influx of eastern European prostitutes, many of them forced to sell unprotected sex for as little as £30 a time. Many of the women are trafficked here, under the illusion they will get jobs as waitresses or au pairs, or perhaps as lap dancers and nightclub hostesses - but will not have to sleep with customers.

Sex Slaves Vice Baron Sentenced

women kept by Ismailej, an illegal immigrant, were forced to work seven days a week, for up to 13 hours a day, and give up their passports to satisfy his "love of money". Brian O'Neill, prosecuting, told the court that Ismailej was the ringleader and that he did not regard the women as anything other than chattels.

The Third Way's Dirtiest Secret

A year ago this Saturday, 23 Chinese cockle pickers died at Morecambe Bay. A major new report uncovers the scale of forced labor in Britain and makes recommendations on curbing this new form of slavery.

'Slave auctions' targeted in crackdown on airport crime

Jacqueline Maley
Monday June 5, 2006
The Guardian

Women are being sold off in "slave auctions" in the arrivals lounges of British airports, according to authorities desperate to crack down on the burgeoning trade in trafficking humans.

The Crown Prosecution Service said foreign women were being sold as sex workers as soon as they arrived, and police have been appealing to men who frequent brothels to contact them in confidence if they believe the prostitutes may be there against their will.

A Home Office report released five years ago estimated the number of victims of human trafficking in the UK at 1,400. But the current figure could be double that, according to Gloucestershire chief constable Tim Brain, the head of Operation Pentameter, a multi-agency taskforce launched in February to combat trafficking. The CPS conference coincides with criticisms levelled at the government by children's charities, who believe its response to the trafficking of children is "completely inadequate".

I think Great Briton needs to apologize to these slaves, then provide substantial monetary reparations for what they did to them.

There is a tangential tie, however. These women can hold out hope that the British courts will grant them justice. How would they fare under Sharia? Is what happened to them even a crime or simply business as usual? What does Europe's demographic shift hold in store for women?

On those rare occasions that I listen to Michael Savage, I lucked into listening to an amazing interview last night (was listening to local coverage of the Atlas 5 launch at KSC, waiting out the holds). Michael was interviewing Phyllis Chesler who has special insight into the fate of women in a Muslim country. Read How my eyes were opened to the barbarity of Islam. I got the distinct impression that indeed the Gatwick situation IS business as usual under TROP.

By whom?

People place ads in Eastern Europe and Russia promising visas and good jobs in the West. They are sometimes the former mafia of those countries. Then as soon as the girl steps off the plane, she's chattel.

It takes place in the airport terminal. The slave auction site is right between the opium den and the pirate bar. Across from the Starbucks.

No mention of any characteristics of the people doing this.

Are they Britons? I suspect not.

This is an issue like drugs: There are two potential solutions. One is to legalize and regulate the industry to take the profits away from the criminals. The other is to come down on the criminals like a ton of bricks.

Here on FR, for example, we would probably have people in either of the two camps. The really problem, however, is that the government does not take either approach. Instead, the government makes it illegal (allowing for the crime element) but then doesn't do all that much about it. It's the worst of both worlds, just like with drugs.

"The 11-strong unit...

Some unit.

If the authorities were serious about this pestilence, they would assign tenfold that number to combat the problem.

It must also be recognized that most of the pimps profiting from this racket are third-worlders from Africa, Caribbean and the Middle East.

Years ago the Brits decided to invite unskilled workers from around their kingdom to immigrate to the homeland. After all they needed people to mow their lawns, clean their castles, and prop up their economy. Now look at the mess they are in.

We're importing illegals from Mexico for the very same reasons.
