Sean needs to be more mindful of what he does and the good Father needs to be equal in his condemnation of public Catholics.I wonder if he would attack Chris Matthews as hard.

I think this letter to Nancy Pelosi in 2004 should end your wondering. He wrote:

You have lost your faith. Just admit it. One either accepts the hierarchy of truths and the hierarchy of authority, or she doesn’t. You obviously don’t. In such case by continuing to call yourself Catholic you are gambling with the most precious of all birthrights, your own soul; and it’s yours to lose. I can understand that it is not politically correct to care about your immortal soul—prescription drug benefits are more popular in Washington—but at least have the decency not to make the souls of others “twice as fit for hell” as you. Have you forgotten about the millstone? The Lord delivered that image to another group of sophisticated public officials who scandalized the weak in faith.

Self control says it all.

Personally, I think this "Father" is a dolt. Not only is he using trying to use Hannity for his own egotistical purposes, he misrepresented Hannity on matters Catholic. I have never heard Hannity claim to be some sort of Catholic expert, a guru, nor have I ever heard him place himself on a pedestal concerning his religion.

Worse, he took an entirely trivial point and used it merely to attack Hannity.

I wonder if this "Father" is much of a Catholic himself?

Sure doesn't LOOK like it.
(But don't judge by me, I think of Catholicism just like the founders did!)

Wait a minute, I thought that the Catholics did away with the eating meat on Friday rule about the same time that they fired St. Christoper.

Far from it. He's a very well respected priest in the Catholic community (FAITHFUL Catholic community, not the cafeteria kind) and has done a LOAD of good stuff for the pro-life movement.

I have never heard Hannity claim to be some sort of Catholic expert, a guru, nor have I ever heard him place himself on a pedestal concerning his religion.

Well then you haven't been listening. For years Sean has been calling himself a "devout, practicing Catholic". If you don't follow the core tenets of the Catholic faith (for instance refusing to believe the Church's stand that contraception is intrinsically evil), then you can't be a "devout, PRACTICING Catholic". Just going to church on Sunday does not a devout Catholic make!

Like O'Reilly, I've heard Sean make troubling statements about artificial birth control being okay in some situations, and this is NOT what the Church teaches.

Moreover, Sean HAS worn his Catholicism on his sleeve. If he's so vocal about his faith, it's certainly legitimate to call him on it when he errs. Especially when the person erring is a public figure who can mislead people into believing erroneous things about the Catholic faith.

An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues:
Man: "I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college
girls, hitchhiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them
three times."
Priest: "Are you sorry for your sins?"
Man: "What sins?"
Priest: "What kind of a Catholic are you?"
Man: "I'm Jewish."
Priest: "Why are you telling me all this?"
Man: "I'm 92 years old .. I'm telling everybody."

I guess when Sean went to seminary he never continued reading to verses 5 and 6, or he is grasping for an excuse for behavior that he knows, in his heart of hearts, is wrong.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Examine that sentence young Mr. Hannity. Does or does not your Lord and Master think it possible to help thy brother?

For extra credit, your opinion on the assumption that the human life of a fetus is unworthy of the protection afforded an infant. Do you consider that a mote or a beam?

As a Catholic, I was appalled by Hannity's behavior, tone and attitude towards this priest. I gave up watching the show a long time ago because of Colmes being such a liar, but I would watch clips on the FNC web site.

I won't be watching nor listening to anymore Hannity either. He was uncharitable and very disrespectful to this priest, IMO.

Good morning. Thanks for the ping.

And no, I don't have anything intelligent to say about the article...except that the Pope gave me special dispensation to eat corn beef and cabbage last March 17th. Oh, and green beer too.

The Father is not the only one who is unhappy with Hannity for that same reason. I am totally put off Hannity forever by his support for a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual "marriage", pro-gun banning RINO.

I now turn off the radio whenever I hear his voice. But I'm afraid there are more and more self-described Christian conservatives signing on. A couple days back, the leftist Atlanta newspaper ran a pro-Rudy column by Rod Dreher. On his blog, I challenged Dreher about his new "change hearts, not laws" abortion stance (the standard copout of the John Kerry "Catholics"), and he came back with "Don't get hysterical!" much as the Rudybots do here whenever they are challenged.

It looks to me as if we are in for a major shake-up in American conservatism--and a likely realignment of political allegiances--even if Rudy Giuliani turns out to be a footnote in this election.

As Mass ended, right before the last election, our priest made a remark to support the guy to was pro choice and to "dump Doolittle" our pro life congressman from Placer County in California.

Bishop Weigand needs to hear this. If no one speaks up, he won't know.

Funny how happy he was when some priests said John Kerry should be denied, but loses it when a priest says he should be denied.

Oy vey! Where in the world are you getting your information?

One thing you can count on with the Catholics, they write everything down. It's just a matter of knowing where to look.

Of all of the fights to have, I don't see this as being one of the useful ones. John Kerry and Ted Kennedy are still out there claiming to be Catholics. I think they certainly deserve more of our opprobrium

The lesser of two evils is still evil.
