A recent spot check by federal agents found that 59 street gang members in Southern California jails are illegal immigrants subject to deportation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement named the deportable gang members during a first-of-its-kind screening of some inmates last month.
The review is continuing, and in the first year officials expect to identify up to 800 gang members who are in this country illegally, said Jim Hayes, director of the Los Angeles field office.
The focus on inmates' immigration status comes as Los Angeles pushes for federal agencies to help crack down on gang crime.
The report has sparked a debate over the role of border enforcement in combating the gang problem.
Some officials say it also shows the need for agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, to loosen policies that generally prohibit officers from asking about the immigration status of anyone they question.
Adios amigos!

The the words "first-of-its-kind" just screamed at me. Maybe I am not just smart enough, but I cannot figure out why this has not been an ongoing process for many years.
Deport them 1,000 times and they'll just come right back across the border 1,000 times. What a joke and what a total waste of tax dollars, all for the sake of pre-election window-dressing. Same goes for these "raids" on scofflaw businesses. Way too little, way too late.
I'm often cynical about this sort of thing, like you are. But on the other hand, several Central American countries are having a huge problem with gang members who were deported from the U.S. (El Salvador is the prime example.)
So it appears that not all of them are making their way back into the states. That's good for us, but real bad for Central America.
My thoughts exactly. Until the border is controlled, this is a waste of resources.
It's really quite simple:
1) give the 'illegal criminal alien invaders, 30 days to leave the country, if not do the following:
2) confiscate all property, homes, vehicles, bank accounts of those 'invaders' and any person or company or church who aids the 'invaders'
3) use the confiscated property to fund additional means of removing the invaders.
It will take brass to remove the 'invaders' but don't you dare tell me it can't be done. The only thing lacking is the will to make the 'illegal criminal alien invaders' leave.
I can. It's because neither party gives a tinker's d*mn about the integrity of our national borders or our immigration law and labor policy. The democrats see these millions of illegals as just one more way to steal elections. And the GOP sleeplessly paces the floor at night, thinking up new ways to kiss Mexico's ass and prevent that country from going communist -- which it would, if those 15 million illegals were still in Mexico and voting in that country's national elections.

Ahhhh, so they would rather they stay here, be made legal, and turn our country into a socialist one.
Makes sense to me.
By the way, there are many more here than 15 million.
Immigration status screening should be a completely automatic, integral part of the incarceration process. And those that are illegal should be incarcerated at a forced labor camp, with no compensation.
Almost nobody wants to face the facts.
If these people stay in Mexico, that country will go communist. If these people stay here, we will suffer a similar result.
The solution is as plain as day. Massive, permanent military fortification of our southern border and intensive coastal enforcement, followed by aggressive policy of deportation. It's too bad that decades of beltway indifference and corruption has brought us to this juncture, but the longer we wait, the worse the fallout is going to be. My guess is that the federal government will do nothing substantive in this matter and that eventually, Americans will have no choice but to take matters into their own hands. I hope I'm wrong about this, but I don't think I am.
Nothing will be done, it would be considered 'mean'. The American people have lost this debate. The politicians care more about illegals.
Our country is already gone. It is too late. I watch the evening news and it sounds like I am already in Mexico. Nothing but hispanic surnames, murders, shootouts, stabbings, etc. A large percentage of those hispanic surnames are legal, anchor babies.
I can't go to certain areas of town. I can't leave my house for long periods of time. I can't get into an emergency room without at least a 4 hr wait and I have to sit there with most of the room speaking Spanish.
I am angry! I am fed up! Noone cares.
They will never enforce immigration law against these people. That will have to come from us.
"They will never enforce immigration law against these people. That will have to come from us."
Of course, and that's exactly why they are working on this:
"ARIZONA: Proposed law would make armed Minutemen vigilantes felons
Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema, D-Phoenix, has introduced a bill in the Arizona House that will make border vigilantism while armed a felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison.
Rep. Kyrsten Sinema said that her proposed law, HB 2286, is specifically aimed at the Minuteman organization "and other vigilante groups" that patrol the US/Mexico border while armed.
Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is a native Arizonan, and a two-time graduate of Arizona State University, earning a law degree and a masters' degree. In addition to her work at the legislature, Kyrsten is a professor in the School of Social Work at ASU and also practices criminal defense law."
and this:
February 21, 2007
"Another Arizona legislator receives death threats from racist border vigilantes
rep. bill_konopnickiYet another Arizona state government representative has received death threats from the racist anti-Mexican border vigilantes that operate in the state. Rep. Bill Konopnicki of Safford, Arizona said on Tuesday, "I never thought that I would fear for my safety or the safety of my family when I took a seat in the Arizona House of Representatives." In an emotional speech on the floor of the legislature, Rep. Konopnicki added, "None of us should fear for our safety or of those we love."
Rep. Bill Konopnicki is not the only Arizona legislator to receive threats in connection with immigration and border issues. On January 22, Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Phoenix reported having received numerous death threats and obnoxious sexually oriented e-mails after she sponsored a bill that would make armed border vigilante operations a felony and an act of domestic terrorism.
rep. kyrsten_sinemaSpeaker of the Arizona House of Representatives Jim Weiers reported that other members had received threats as well. Speaker Weiers said, "Mr. Konopnicki, you're right. A lot of things have gotten out of hand, These things happen a lot, a lot more than the public would ever imagine." Weiers added, "It goes too far to threaten families. Hopefully we will catch these people and bring them to justice."
Arizona is now the epicenter of the Mexican "immigration earthquake" and a possible flashpoint for a bloody border war. In the recent past, there have been numerous brazen murders of defenseless undocumenetd Mexican immigrants and the state has become a magnet for violent White supremacists from throughout the USA. There is a sizable under-educated White population that takes much pride in the state's "lawless" (Ala Wild West) culture and who believe it is their right to hunt for and kill undocumented Mexican immigrants with impunity."
Both News Bulletins from LaVoz deAtzlan
Didn't think they were readying those FEMA camps for the illegals?
And that only scratches the surface. It won't just be the Mexicans we're fighting. It will be all those living in the USA who have a vested interest in continuing this invasion, everyone from the gangs to the federal government itself. Those of us who take a stand to defend our laws, our border, our soil, will have no allies but plenty of enemies right here at home -- just as we do now.
