Nope. "Its like deja vu all over again"
We need to get over Rudy. This party is setting itself up all over again for a 2006 replay. Clever on the part of the Dems. If something works , why fix it?, strategy.
We lose in 2006, more about the Foley kerfuffal, than anything else. After the elections, the RATs get rolling quickly for 2008. Puts us in a hurry.
We are fed polls that Rudy is the guy. It is already causing a major division and argument in the party. Many people do not know the Rudy history, especially people who spend little time on politics, they only think of 9-11.
We put Rudy up, the MSMs and the Dems will make the most ugly facts about Rudy ever more ugly.
The MSMs are too quiet at this time on Rudy and his history, they are...waiting.
We will have a Foley scandal of POTUS size proportions. In sail the RATs with relative ease.
End of story.
I think you nailed it.
Like foley, the MSM KNEW all the details. They even had pictures of Foley in public openly with his live in sex partner. They KNEW he was chasing pages. Newspapers like the Miami Herald kept quiet to preserve access.
SO now we have a Guiliani with multiple skeletons and a MSM which wants to preserve access. It is a deal with the devil with a catch in the end.
D is also right that Hillary! has a similar, demanding personality. However, she lies about what she will do if she gets her hand on the Presidency, her failure to socialize health care is an indicator of where she wants to push the nation.

I DON"T THINK SO
I don't think so, for two reasons.
The first is the product. Rudy's not a Boy Scout. He's an SOB. He's not President Bush, promising a new tone, delivering flowery, religious themed speeches, or to be a 'uniter'. People understand the difference. While it would be hypocritical of an arch social conservative (like Newt) to have a shady past, the context fits for an SOB, and most people won't care.
Remember, Rudy's not just an SOB. He's a heavyweight level SOB with a long track record. His credentials are naturally going to include some dirt, as he's got the kind of tough guy personality that people see as consistent with it.
(I know that many FReepers and the chuch lady corps will throw an epileptic fit, but the average voter will probably not be overly concerned. In 2008, it'll be consistency and toughness they're looking for in a candidate, not sainthood.)
Second, odds are that Hillary will take the nomination. She has a lot of baggage that works against her. Left unexamined, it earns her some sympathy points. Dragging it out into the light will burn her as badly as does Rudy's. So, she might opt to go after his past, but two can play at that game.
