WASHINGTON -- Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., was asked on national TV yesterday if he's interested in being the Democrats' candidate for vice president in 2008.
Webb, who's held elective office for little more than two months, sidestepped the question from host George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week."
"I'm still finding my way around the Senate," he said.
....snip...
Webb so far is better known for his longtime opposition to President Bush's handling of the Iraq war and for his populist spotlighting of economic fairness issues.
...snip...
According to a Webb spokesman, he supports a new resolution by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Iraq. It would set a goal of withdrawing most U.S. troops from Iraq by March 2008.
The resolution is a way to push the Bush administration to couple military withdrawal with a diplomatic effort in the region, Webb said yesterday.

When was this a campaign issue for him? I don't remember hearing about this so-called problem before November.
Richmond ping.
It's going to be a long 6 years....
I hear that Chuck Hagel is looking for a running mate.
He had no issues in the campaign other than "I'm against the war, I'm not George Allen and George Allen said macaca." Any objective look at the campaign will acknowledge that.
That said, he's going to get to the bottom of the 2 million people incarcerated in the US?
If he's going to eradicate crime, I might just change my opinion of him. But I'll hold off on that until he's done.
It's kinda hard to see how his aspirations could not be higher than his current situation.
LOL - wouldn't that be special
Sounds to me like he thinks there are too many people incarcerated (and that it is the fault of the "system.")
Well, I hate to be picky but in parsing his statement....he never said anything about getting rid of crime. He's just going to look into why there are 2 million people incarcerated.
Do you think he'll make a speech after he finds out that most of these folks belong in jail because they broke the law? What about the people who ought to be in jail, but aren't? Do you think he'll look into that problem as well?
Nah, I didn't think so..... that would require intellectual honesty on his part.
A higher aspiration for Webb would be gaining the ability to carry on an intelligent conversation with a 20 year old deaf dog.
No he'll find out its all the fault of the eeeeevil guns!
hey, iceskater,
Do you have higher aspirations? You make sense.
Are you channelling Sultan88?
He used to always ask me about running for office....
I still miss the Sultan.
But to answer your question, I don't think so. It's tempting sometimes - especially when idiots like Webb start mouthing off.
Higher aspirations? Yeah, Webb would like to work his way up from scumbag to sleazeball. It'll take a lot of work, though.
LOL - you are so right!
Jim Webb and John Warner. Both huge embarrasments to the Commonwealth of Virginia. As noted above it's gonna be a long six years...
Yep. I really don't much like that guy.
Well, that was my point. ;-)
I knew that was implying that it's the fault of the system, not the criminals.
We're all victims after all...
Yeah - I'm a victim of Webb's stupidity. Maybe I should sue him....
Yes he wants to be a bigger jerk.
Just another Democrat(ic) "god". Idiots!
