What are those things in front of the cockpit? Side view mirrors?

Looks like pitot tubes or inputs to the airdata system.

Would an engagement between Paki and Indian Air Forces be considered a comedy?..

The Israelis sold China Python-3 missiles in the 80s,not Python-4s which are newer. The Chicoms have their own series of SideWinder copies(stolen from Taiwan or given by Pakistan) with this most probably being the PL-9.

So this is what happens when an F-16 meets a Mig 23 in a rear-end collision.....

The F-20 was above the class!

Probably air data sensors (pitot tubes, angle of attack sensors, etc.).

The fuselage does look like a Saab, like the Griffen now. Wing and horizontal tail planforms look F-16-ish. Vertical tail looks Russian. Nice hodgepodge of styling. Performance class obviously depends on weight, engine thrust, etc. Does it have digital flight control system?

What's with the big honkin' stall fences on top of the wings? That's throwback to the 50's. Or a last-minute fix to some problem discovered in test.

The article didn't say anything about fly-by-wire.

If this is the economy model, perhaps not. Fly-by-wire has to be EMP-hardened, I think.

It's meant as a replacement for the Mig-21/Mirage-3 & F-5 class fighters & is not in the same class as the F-16/Mig-29.

Really? You'd think if they went to the trouble of building an airframe, they'd spend a little more on the avionics......

Is it fair to infer that this a/c will be a rough peer to the indigenous Taiwanese Ching-Kuo, then?

You could compare it to the IDF.China began work on this project a long ago, when it's economy was nowhere as it is now & had few reliable arms suppliers, even in the West. It's now got the J-10 which comes in the 20 tonne category-no pressing need for a smaller less capable jet.
