Business: Democrats gleefully demonize oil companies, outlaw offshore drilling and, in Hillary Clinton's case, vow to expropriate profits. In that kind of climate, why the surprise that Halliburton is moving to Dubai?

Halliburton's pullout from its Houston headquarters Monday for a new home in the Middle East drew umbrage from the very Democrats who've had the oil-services company in their gun sights for years.

Clinton led the charge, hinting at more punishment ahead. "I think it raises a lot of very big concerns, and we're going to be looking into it in Washington," she warned.

One of industry's most innovative firms, Halliburton provides the operative brawn to transform the discoveries of oil exploration into fuel ready for pipeline transport all the way to the gas station. It holds 4,700 patents.

The only thing Democrats see in this showplace of U.S. innovation is a criminal conspiracy. But then, leftists have built a whole culture around hating Halliburton.

How many more companies are going to have to leave the U.S. before the folks in Washington get the message?

When you regulate and confiscate companies to death, they have no choice but to leave the U.S. to survive.

We need to eliminate the corporate income tax and slash regulation.

Let's create an environment where companies want to do business not one where they fell compelled to leave!

I remember reading a while ago that ther are only three companies in the world that can do the kinds of things Halliburton does - Elf Aquitaine from France, Lukoil from Russia and Halliburton (formerly) from the US. I just can not believe the level of stupidity it took to drive them out of the US!

I don't know exactly what "things" you have in mind.

I do know that when it comes to infrastructure for the pertochemical industry, other American giants include Fluor and Bechtel.

Each have specialties and strengths.

I tend to think it was more of a calculated plan than stupidity on the Democrats part.

Trying to remember - I think it was the logistical functions Kellogg Brown & Root does in support of the petrochemical industry that were most unusual. The "Big Three" also have a lot more diversified operations than their rivals. There are a lot of companies that can do parts, but those three were the only ones that could provide all of the services needed for the Iraq oil industry reconstruction, hence Halliburton's no-bid contract.

About the same number of businesses that must close or leave for Chavez to get the message.

Like all of them.

Still won't get it.

And that portion of Halliburton is no longer part of Halliburton. It is breaking away and staying in the US.
