Fred Thompson is a very good friend of McCain's and only one of four Senators that endorsed McCain in 2000. If he gets in the race, it will be to help McCain. He supported McCain wholeheartedly on CFR as well. He has exactly zero executive experience and his hearings on the theft of nuclear secrets were basically a sham. Wait until my Senator tears into him and you will see the real Fred Thompson -- he did it once and you can bet he will do it again just like in the primaries in 2000! Did I mention that Thompson voted no on one impeachment count against Clinton?

Some of you just don't get it and don't think why would a friend of McCain's get in the race with McCain. Amazing at the short memories of some of you who were so mad because he voted no against removal on one of the counts.

I can hear Roy Orbison singing now: "Just run-ing scared..." LOL! You're supporting the most liberal Republican in the race, yet you try to cast guilt by association on Fred Thompson. Get a grip!

I take it, since you support Rudy Fruity that you're a Democrat and a liberal?

He was in the Seante 8 years...What did he do there? I can't recall much at all and some rather negative situations like the investigation of the campaign finances. He just doesn't have the background to impress some of us. I'm looking for leadership, not the image of it he projects due to his career in television and movies. What did he accompish in the Senate that impresses some so much, please detail it for those of us who don't seem to recall much of anything. He did go down to Florida during the re-count, that was a positive. I'm not even sure about his stance on abortion....he seems to have had a few of them, like Romney. It takes more than a great voice and communications skills to make a President. Please (and I am sincerely asking) those of you who support him...Tell us WHY.

Just remember that Fred Thompson was one of the first to support Scotter Libby and setting up a defense fund. He has the heart, mind and sense of many of us here today. Just because he is friends with McCain doesn't mean he agrees with all of his policies. Otherwise he would just put all his energy to see McCain win this thing. I was leaning Rudy G, but Thompson would change my mind. Someone mentioned that even Guiliani was against an early pardon of Libby.

To be intellectually honest, Giuliani also supports CFR, and was at least back in 2000, friends with McCain and wrestled with whom to support back in 2000 as well according to his book Leadership.

Now his voting no on impeaching a president who committed perjury, that I don't know and he needs to explain it. As far as him being the "second coming" of Reagan as some are trying to portray on here (I know not you :), though they both are conservative and actors that is about it. Reagan was not just an actor, he was a 2 term governor of our largest state. 8 years as governor of California is worth far far more then a life time as a senator let alone 8 years in the senate. I don't know much about Thompson, I am interested to what his ideas and platform is, If he brings to bear some great ideas on domestic and foreign policy then I would be have to consider supporting him seriously, however if he is just going to campaign on "Im a conservative and their not" then he is just going to be another niche candidate. We need leadership, if he can bring it coupled with strong conservatism then I could support him, if not then I will stick with my guy.

Your argument makes sense on all levels except one.

That is this: there is NO WAY that Fred Thompson is helping John McCain by announcing that he is seriously considering entering the Presidential race.

Thompson's announcement will drain McCain's support like a Power Flush.

Not a logical argument.

I suppose McCain and Thompson would be battling for the same "social conservatives" as far as many primary voters are concerned.

If Thompson can stop Giuliani, I'm all for a presidential run.

Frankly, I think Thompson made the right call on impeachment. It is the Senate's job to consider the weight of the charge when voting. It is not like a jury trial, where the only question is guilt or innocence.

This was Thompson's position at the time, and I think he was right.

If McCain wasn't McCain, I might not have such a hard time with him. The thing about McCain is that he strikes me as somebody I cannot trust. He seems much too ambitious and much too much like somebody who has been running for President since childhood.

I don't get that same feeling about Thompson. Thompson strikes me as an honest man who is interested in serving his country.

It may be irrational, but there you go!

>>"If he gets in the race, it will be to help McCain."<<
Give that line up. You've already used it on mulitple threads, and no one is going for it. Just because you say it doesn't make it true.

Some of us "just don't get it"? My, my. Isn't it wonderful that we have you here to help us see the light?/sarcasm

You tell us not to vote for Thompson because he is "
a very good friend" of liberal Republican McCain.

Yet you support a liberal Republican yourself.

Makes no sense.

I read Thompson's floor speech on the subject, and agreed with him on the not guilty charge on the 1st count. The count was hopelessly flawed in its charges, making it nearly impossible to be fairly applied.

He voted guilty on the charge that was the heart of the matter -- using the Presidency and the power of government to obstruct justice.

If Scooter Libby's perjury charge had been written like the one Clinton faced, we'd have been outraged -- for example, it didn't provide a single statement that was claimed to be false.

He supported McCain wholeheartedly on CFR as well.

So did Rudy.

Did I mention that Thompson voted no on one impeachment count against Clinton?

Did I mention that Rudy opposed the PBA ban that Clinton vetoed? The ban that Fred voted for?

Every time I think you cannot possibly become more mendanacious with your posts on FR, you prove me wrong. You are just a slimy talking point machine for the Rudy campaign any longer. And I love it that Fred has your camp so terrified that you suddenly are talking up Duncan Hunter. Your tactics are as transparent as they come.
