Yanukovych calls for boost in defense sector cooperation with Russia

Kyiv, March 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian Premier Viktor Yanukovych has called for the acceleration of cooperation between Ukraine and Russia in the defense sector.

Russia is Ukraine's main partner in the defense industry, but Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the sector is decreasing steadily, Yanukovych said at a meeting on the Ukrainian defense industry on Monday, ordering his cabinet to seek ways to reverse the trend.

"We are well aware that to date, our main partner [in the defense industry] has been Russia," Yanukovych told a conference in Kyiv on the current state and the future of Ukraine's military industry.
