The assertion was made repeatedly that Giuliani had no choice but to march in the Gay Pride parade because it had become "tradition" and it would be politically damaging to refuse to do so. As a result, he wound up participating in a parade in which NAMBLA marched.

Since we're constantly being told what a tough guy Rudy is and how he "stands up" to his enemies I thought it certainly demonstrates a lack of political courage.

Considering that dozens of politicians in NYC refuse to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade in protest of the Hibernian's refusal to allow homosexuals to march in the parade under their own banner, it seems particularly apt.
