On March 12, 2007, Dan Rather gave a speech at the South by Southwest interactive conference in which he said the American media had lost its guts in recent years. Rather accused the mainstream media of being afraid to challenge authority and not providing critical reporting of the White House and the Pentagon, for fear of being seen as unpatriotic or unsupportive of Americas fighting troops in Iraq.
According to Rather, Weve brought it on ourselves, partly because weve lost the sense that the patriotic journalist will be on his or her feet asking the tough questions. My role as a member of the press is to be sometimes a check and balance on power
in many ways
what we and journalism need is a spine transplant
the nexus between powerful journalists and people in government and corporate power has become far too close

This is nothing but the coffee calling the kettle black. whoops, is that racist? Probably it is racist. However, I thought it was the pot (not coffee) calling the kettle black... not that there's anything wrong with that. Besides, the coffee probably did it too.

Dan is illusioned that he's like our ex-Pres. Bill who was impeached but seemed to come out of it with only an annoying scrape. Liberals as left as these do not really see what is going on around them or within them!

the patriotic journalist will be on his or her feet asking the tough questions "Senor Castro, you are so wise, so benevolent -- Why do you think the United States insists on being such a backward place?"

Therein lay the foundation for his and a great many other "journalist's" psychosis.
It is not a journalist's job to do anything other than report the facts.

the nexus between powerful journalists and people in government and corporate power has become far too close No, Dan, it is not. Your job is simply to unambiguously report the truth.
Your very statement reveals you for the tyrant-wanna-be that you and so many of your ilk are. You absolutely crave, with no election, with no constitutional authority, and with no respect for the Constitution in any case or the form of government and way of life it has made possible, to be in power and to become your own check and balance, read ruler, over those who are duly elected or appointed by law to do so.
You sir, are nothing more than a domestic enemy wrapped up in a communistic-socialistic reporter's guise who has no care of respect for the truth, but who, in seeking his own (and those of his ilks) illegitament empowernment, would undoe the very fabric that has made this nation what it is.
You, sir, can go straight to hell.

In my dreams, I wish this was the truth. But everytime I turn on the set, the news is filled with white house bashing, terrorist-propaganda, and outright bashing of American soldiers every night.
