ARIS: A rebel leader from Sudan's Darfur said that the UN must either protect the area's residents or arm them so they can defend themselves. "Either UN forces come to protect our people or the international community has to arm us to defend our people from genocide," Abdul Wahid Mohammad Nour said. "These are the only two options." Nour, who is on a visit to Europe to draw attention to the situation in Darfur, is leader of one faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement/ Army. His faction has refused to sign a peace agreement with the Sudanese government. "We refuse to sign an agreement for security reasons, as long as there is no clear disarmament of Janjaweed," he said, referring to the government proxy militia in Darfur. "They committed crimes, killed tens of hundreds of thousands of our people, raped hundreds of thousands of our people, burnt hundreds of villages, committed genocide ... Who is going to disarm them? The government who has armed them?" - AFP http://www.dailystar.com.lb

your not hearing about Christian(others) slaves in Africa, today?

No? Why is that?

Sudanese Christian slave 'crucified' by Muslim master

From WND:

After being nailed to a board by his master and left for dead – the last in a series of torturous acts – a Sudanese Dinka boy escaped from his bondage and lived to tell his horrific story.

The story of "Joseph," a Christian, is told in a recent newsletter of the Persecution Project Foundation, an organization that monitors Christian persecution in Africa.

PPF's Brad Phillips recently returned from visiting Joseph, who originally was sold into slavery at age 7 in 1987.

"I had the privilege of spending a day with this amazing boy who is now called Joseph," Phillips wrote. "I spoke with him, I interviewed him, I saw his scars, and I saw his eyes. What I saw moved me, and still haunts me."

Some Christian and other groups have adopted the controversial practice of traveling to Sudan and buying captives' freedom. This practice does have two positive effects: bullet It buys the freedom of thousands of slaves, abductees and prisoners of war. bullet It focuses world attention on the profoundly immoral practices in Sudan.

But I thought we can solve this problem by giving mo' money to SaveDarfur.org. Surely the Beautiful People can make the Bashir government see reason.

Bush could solve this problem with one B2, a handful of JDAM's, and a moonless night.

But don't expect any gratitude from the usual suspects.

Where is the Human Shield movement? Where are the peace-niks? Where are the war-tourists? Isn't anyone going to go and put their bodies between the Darfurians and the Sudanese? No?

Anyone?
