Interesting historical tidbit: Many people in North Africa have ancestry that can be traced to Ireland, England, France, and Spain. From the 600's to the 1600's, mostly Muslim raiders from modern day Morocco and Algeria staged occasional slave raids against the northern European nations. Whole villages along the coast were packed into ships and carted back to Africa, and on to the Middle East, for use as domestic slaves. As recently as the late 1600's, Berber raiders landed on the shores of England and Ireland and carted people back to Africa for lives of servitude. Think about that for a second...at the same time the American colonies were being founded, at the same time the Pilgrims were laying the foundations of our nation, Muslim slavers were raiding Europe for pretty sex slaves and potential eunuchs.
Most of those slaves left descendants, and in some African communities there are still detectable genetic "fingerprints" of their European slave ancestors.
