US-led forces raiding suspected insurgent hideouts in an upscale area of Baghdad stumbled across 150 cases of booze stashed with the usual accoutrements of war, the army said yesterday.

On a third day of clearing operations in the western Sunni Arab district of Mansur, the military said the 100 cases of Smirnoff and 50 cases of Johnny Walker were unearthed along with three hand grenades and several passports.

Fifty gallons of nitric acid were also found in other caches of explosives, weapons and ammunition.

I can hear Slim Pickens now:

100 cases of Smirnoff

50 cases of Johnny Walker

Three hand grenades

Passports...

Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Karbala with all that.

Hmmm, I guess just a few might have eaten a ham sandwich once or twice too.

In fact, the 9-11 19 had been frequenting T&A bars before they went out to kill the infidel.

Actually, booze is legal in Iraq and has been all along. There are at least two thriving liquor stores in the Green Zone alone and several out in the town.

You can get a case of Tuborg beer for about $7 outside the zone and a large bottle of Absolut vodka for about $12.

large bottle of Absolut vodka for about $12.

At that price it ain't worth smuggling.

Maybe they were just getting ready for a wedding celebration.

Destroy the liberated booze as it is probably poisoned.

What a way to get the Iraqi forces crackin'. If you kill the insurgents, you get to drink what's in the hidy-hole.
