This just went bigtime...

No it didn't. British are looking for (1) a diplomatic solution, (2) no confrontation, and (3) help from the EU. In other words, they've already backed down to Iran. In fact, they did so when they refused to let the Cornwall engage the enemy.

Predators do not attack strong, healthy prey. They only attack weak, vulnerable prey.

"There is nothing to be gained in provoking a confrontation, because that would be playing into their hands. But neither should we let them have it all their way.

How cute... so they can't get it ALL THEIR way, just sorta' their way... a bit... perhaps let them keep / kill 7 or 8 of the 15 would be prudent?

Someone should tell this genius that he has no say in "provoking a confrontation" when it is time and time again the Iranians that provoke.

Flashbacks of the Hezbo's and Israel over the summer.. Hezbo's kidnap a bunch of soldiers and all of a sudden, people are demanding that Israel not 'respond so meanly' and admonishing them for escalating the situation.

You think they might have noticed that as well?

Be a complete jackass, and the worse case scenario is you only get half the bribe/demand you wanted.

Thats one hell of a message to send to these nut-jobs even once... much less over and over and over again.

As the crew members were surrounded in their two rubber dinghies, the Cornwall's commander, Commodore Nick Lambert, frantically radioed back to his own top brass for instructions.

Somewhere Lord Nelson's ghost is weeping at what has become of his Royal Navy...

I seem to recall that Abraham Lincoln jailed congressmen for obstructing the war.

On another thread about the USS Stennis arriving in the 5th Fleet area, "blam" said:

"My take:
We're not going to attack Iran.

But, a new round of sanctions are about to take effect and it is anticipated that Iran may pull some 'stunt' in the Persian Gulf.

We now have the assets in place to react with overwhelming force if they do."

Prescient?

I still want to know what the heck Iranian ships (boats/whatever) were doing in Iraqi waters in the first place. The Brits and the Americans have right and reason to be there - the Iranians, as far as I know, do not.

Far from letting them surround and capture British boats and crews, should the good guys not have prevented the Iranians from even entering the neighborhood?

A sign of our times when politicians are the most deadly force available in a crisis.

The clutch of VIPs will gather in an operations room several floors below Downing Street as early as this afternoon to plot an escape from a military spat that now threatens to become an international incident. WAR!!!

It would be easy to see what that nutjob president of Iran is made of..........

Giv'em three days to release them or shake the big stick.
Not a little, butta lot and hit'em really hard, multiple targets.......including the ol nuke sites.

If the Brits or anyone else for that fact allow this, it will embolden the Iranians into more aggressive posturing.
