This just went bigtime...No it didn't. British are looking for (1) a diplomatic solution, (2) no confrontation, and (3) help from the EU. In other words, they've already backed down to Iran. In fact, they did so when they refused to let the Cornwall engage the enemy.

Flashbacks of the Hezbo's and Israel over the summer.. Hezbo's kidnap a bunch of soldiers and all of a sudden, people are demanding that Israel not 'respond so meanly' and admonishing them for escalating the situation.
You think they might have noticed that as well?
Be a complete jackass, and the worse case scenario is you only get half the bribe/demand you wanted.

I still want to know what the heck Iranian ships (boats/whatever) were doing in Iraqi waters in the first place. The Brits and the Americans have right and reason to be there - the Iranians, as far as I know, do not.
Far from letting them surround and capture British boats and crews, should the good guys not have prevented the Iranians from even entering the neighborhood?
