By law and order, I mean conservative's demands for criminalization of 'libertinism' resulting in massive police intrusion into society which, thanks to WOT funding, is overflowing its banks. When the cops are thugs immune from responsibility, law and order has come home to roost.

I see. That's why they are beating up bartenders and businessmen.

We've given the police so much power over our lives, they think they can do that, yes. And that's just the ones you hear about.

Police work involves people AND power, which attracts scum.

I've known some cops, and most of them are pretty good guys. A few live up to your billing, however. I've known at least one cop who should NEVER have been issued a badge, for the reason you state.

Hmmm. Next, maybe Mayor Daley will pass Chicago's version of the 'Administration of Justice' act.

We've given the police so much power over our lives, they think they can do that, yes.

But who is doing that? These thug cops we are talking about work for Democrat Mayor Daley, the guy who champions the "gay, lesbian and trans-gendered community". That isn't exactly an anti-libertine agenda. The thug cops in Washington DC worked for crooked coke head Marion Barry.

Democrats have given the government much more power than conservatives and it is Democrats who act as if they are above the law. In national and in local politics they act as if laws were intended to apply only to conservatives.

The current owner may have (I'm speculating) here encouraged off-duty cops to hang out late at night for "security" purposes.

TANSTAAFL.

Yup. You may have gathered that I'm somewhat [ahem] familiar with the establishment. I used to go there for a late-night snack after long hours studying. Yeah, that's it, long long hours studying. Very tired, I was.

The cops in the bar are SO lucky that the corrupt 1% was sent to their brawl and not the some of the good cops.

With luck like that I hope they are betting men.

" Democrats have given the government much more power than conservatives..."

Do you have a cite for that? When the Feds override state referenda, instruct state authorities to not prosecute illegal immigration laws, use the Patriot Act for nonterrorist activities (just as we feared would happen), threaten to prosecute people who get their prescription medication in Canada, and have among the FBI's top priorities the investigation of adult porn, and criminalize internet gambling, I have a real problem with exempting conservatives from creating inordinate federal power.

I never drank that far north after work. I liked the Cactus and Alcock's, of course.

I'm talking about conservatives, not RINO's. The Bush administration has done as much as the Democrats to expand federal power. You have to go back to Ronald Reagan to find a conservative.

Conservatives are trying to protect the rights given by the Constitution, not the imaginary ones concocted by liberal members of the US Supreme court. The first amendment gave us the right of free speech, the liberals took that away with campaign finance reform. The second amendment gave us the right to keep and bear arms, liberals have whittled away at that right for decades.

The rights that Republicans have taken away are the right to engage in pathologies like abortion, narcotics or diseased sexual lifestyles. But liberals take away our right to speech and self defense. They have taken away the right to protect ourselves from deathly insects by banning pesticides, they trying to tell us what kind of food we can eat, they are telling children they can't pray over their lunch at school. They have micromanaged our lives by telling us how much water we can have in our toilets and how much salt and fat we can have in our food. They are trying to tell what we can eat, for crying out loud!

Liberals want to be our mommies and daddies. But liberals make lousy parents. Good parents don't tell their kids that it is just fine to be a homosexual. They don't drug their kids into submission with Ritalin to get them to behave. They don't tell them it is their "choice" to get an abortion.

How about if "we" don't use that money at all. Of course, I know it is really cool to have the latest gadgets and uniforms that real soldiers have and to be able to drive your APC in the Christmas parade...

Hey, I'm for that. Submit your budget so I can see what pet projects you'll fund.

Oh, and it's the "Winter Solstice Parade", thank you very much, and the APC was obtained as military surplus for a dollar.

I'm willing to leave it at that. I agree.
