2nd police attack alleged (Chicago Cops again Caught on Tape)

Prosecutors are investigating allegations that six off-duty Chicago cops were caught on a downtown bar's video camera beating four businessmen, the second such incident in recent months, law enforcement sources said.

In the Dec. 15 beating at the Jefferson Tap and Grille, one alleged victim required reconstructive surgery on his face and another suffered four broken ribs, said Sally Saltzberg, a lawyer for the men.

Other bar patrons called 911. But when patrol officers responded, the off-duty officers involved allegedly spoke to them and the patrol officers left without intervening, sources said.

The video depicts one of the off-duty officers, who is a sergeant, waving off a responding officer, a law enforcement source said. The responding officers then left the scene.

A lot of bad cop stories in the news lately. A few days ago in Colorado a drunken ex-cop killed two teens.

Cops are very close-knit. They tend to socialize and even marry within the law-enforcement community. That's worrisome because of one bad apple theory.

With the militarization of police through SWAT teams come no-knock deadly raids. Now off-duty police wave officers off crimes in progress. The WOD and WOT funding give up a police force that takes the hyperbole out of 'tyranny.' I've had enough law & order from the conservatives, thanks.

Six on four? Sounds like off-duty Chicago cops. When I was back visiting old friends over Xmas - a number of whom are Chicago fireman - I was surprised at the negative attitude towards Chicago cops. Starting to see where that comes from.

This happened in the middle of December and it is now the end of March, why hasn't the PD acted? I can't get to the story as it requires registration but it would seem to me that there should have been a whole bunch of officers pulled out of duty pending a full investigation.

I understand that police are a tight group, my dad carried a badge, but that doesn't excuse what is going on in Chicago. The officers there must figure that they have protection from the top officials of the department and must say it sure looks like it. The chief should have acted way before this and from what I can read he still hasn't acted. Bad, very bad.
