After what Edwards did to the medical profession in North Carolina, I don't understand how any DR would risk treating a member of his family...

no, he's not taking advantage of his wife's illness. not at all. he's just going to talk about it at every campaign stop, every single day, from now until 2/5/2008.

As soon as I found out that Katie Couric was doing the interview I turned the TV off after the basketball game ended.

The baby birds. Gotta learn to fly. No food brought to the nest.
Oh for Gawd's sake!!! Those two make me want to spit up. I think the little ones are the ones who need our prayers.

That is the first thing that went through my mind.
When she dies, he will probably sue the Dr. and the hospital.

If Mom's going to be sick and die during the early part of their lives, they are going to grow up fast. Don't make this sound worse than it was meant to be.

sad story. I can't understand their choice, but he seems to be a decent family man.
To: COUNTrecount
Well, thoughts and prayers to Elizabeth and the family, but, goodness gracious, just the headline made me want to throw up.
What a topic for Katie. I guess we get this in our face for the next year or so.

Cowering woman syndrome, psychological for sure, physical too? Cite this quote of Elizabeth's:
Elizabeth Edwards: "That would be my legacy wouldn't it, Katie. That I'd... that I'd... that I'd... that I'd taken out this fine man from the possibility of giving a great service. I mean, I don't want that to be my legacy."

I didn't realize that it was announced that her cancer was actually incurable! I had a friend who had battled breast cancer for three years. Once it moved to her bones, she only lived for another couple of years, and was frail for much of that time.
I don't think Mrs. Edwards will have very much time left. I'm sure she wants to live as long as she can for her young children, but if she undergoes the necessary chemo and radiation, she will be debilitated a lot of that time. I can't believe Edwards has decided NOT to be with her for that time. What, he can't wait a few years, and have those years WITH his wife and children not surrounded by the flotsam and jetsam of a political campaign? I just don't understand this attitude.

I wish her well, but why take this thing on tour?
It seems it's a given that anyone with a personal tragedy know becomes a national spokesperson as a result. Fame from misfortune is now a career path.
I understand how John Walsh started America's Most Wanted and the MADD folks, but we all can't be doing this or can we? When do we reach saturation?

You don't spoze the Doctor thought, "Well ambulance chaser, what you going to do about this? Raise MY MedMal premiums!"
