Assimilation plays no part in this history lesson (Mexica Movement)
LA Times ^ | March 26, 2007 | Bob Sipchen

The 400-foot-long mural decorating two outside walls at Theodore Roosevelt High presents a colorful depiction of the rape, slaughter and enslavement of North America's indigenous people by genocidal Europeans.

...

I stumbled on the beautifully painted call for the descendants of Aztecs and other native cultures to reclaim their continent while hiking around the well-secured Boyle Heights campus in search of an entrance. Now I stand drinking in its full effect with artist Nelyollotl Toltecatl and the man he credits with enlightening him to North America's true history, Olin Tezcatlipoca.

I tracked these two down through an odd little website, http://www.stolencontinent.org . The massive mural ... is a project of "the Mexica Movement," a small but disproportionately outraged cadre whose rhetoric pushes hard against the boundary between political expression and bigotry. A note to a "European," for example, proclaims: "Your people are … inferior to us in your morals, ethics, and humanity — by your collective actions of the last 500 years."

...

Roosevelt High these days is 99.1% Latino. Not that the Mexica Movement has any patience with that term. "We reject the right of Europeans to define who we are," the website says. "We reject their occupation of our continent and their occupation of our DNA."

...

On the one hand there's the father who called to say his son was humiliated when a teacher yanked down a map of North America and said any white students in the class should be ashamed of the atrocities their ancestors had inflicted on the continent.

Then there are the students, including many I met outside Roosevelt, who say that they've learned nothing in their years of public education about the accomplishments of people from Mexico or Central America ...

Tezcatlipoca: An Aztec God of the second sun, lies and deciet. He often came forth in the form of a Jaguar. His name means "the smoking mirror" probably a reference to the lies he told.

Interesting that this artist with his distorted views is named after such a diety.

My dad went to Roosevelt just prior to WW2. I don't remember him telling me about any wall or MECHA. Things must have changed since then.

So are they all going to stop speaking Spanish and resort to one of the Mayan or Olmec or Aztec languages?

They're going to speak "Anahuac" ... right after they learn to speak English ... or no.

It doesn't take much to "change" an area. Illegals dump a bunch of anchor babies on the local school system for babysitting services (assisted by a sh*tload of charities) and the American natives no longer want to send their children to that school system to learn English as a second language. So-o-o, they either homeschool, revert to private schools, register their children at an address outside that district, or move out of the newly formed barrio. POOF! Insta-Slum.

Aztecs were cannibals.

"I ask Tezcatlipoca about this shared struggle, if there's not something to teaching students that America is a melting pot — e pluribus unum — the one place where people from different backgrounds can live together and try to work things out without obsessing on the past.

He doesn't buy it. He notes that Jews haven't forgotten their Holocaust."

These Mexica cats are racists, pure and simple.

These are the people who want to rewrite history. There was no native Indian "empire." Part of the reason the Europeans were able to take over was because of that fact. There were thousands of mostly independent, often competing, often hostile native groups and tribes. The Aztecs were made acutely aware of this fact shortly after Cortes arrived and made friends with some of their enemies.

Cortez did the world a favor by destroying Aztec culture. Having a culture next door that features human sacrifice would make even the Muslims seem rational.

Aztecs also used to skin people and wear their skin as ceremonial clothing.

A serious question:

Do white folks REALLY want Mexicans, or Puerto Ricans, or African Americans to assimilate into their race/culture? What does assimilation mean anyway?

If it means speaking English, shopping at the mall, and watching the Dallas Cowboys, then I would say that all of these folks are doing just fine. Peaceful coexistence is all I expect from my fellow Americans. I really don't care if folks choose to segregate themselves into neighborhoods/cafeteria tables/cliques.

Fortunately for today's modern Mexican no one has to look back on any sort of Aztec ancestor. They all died out in a massive plague in the early 1500s (which would have happened with or without European presence)

These guys are about 99% pure European derivation, and that in turn arises out of Arabian North Africa.

That's why so many of them look like Iraqis and Iranians.

Your average citizen of the United States is more likely to have a real North American Indigenous Person ancestor than any Mexican.

Don't let the tans fool you.

Assimilation is the author's term, though I'm sure he'd agree with you. But he is also talking people (many of whom are foreign nationals) actively seeking anarchy and takeover. I believe he is using "assimilation" here much in the same way another journalist would call a 99.1% Latino school population "diverse." The PC verbiage obscures the message.

These self-segregated neighborhoods often Balkinize large areas. Recently the LA Times reported attempts by Latino gangs (cliques?) to ethnically cleanse Compton of blacks by means of violence. Do I care if they choose not to "assimilate" in this instance? Hell yeah!

I've witnessed these acts of arrogance and stupidity closer to home and on a personal level. I had to contact the police on several occasions in the past when a neighbor made it obvious his actions were intended to aggravate or intimidate me into moving. And guess what? I'm still here! HE moved!

That is news to me.

I know the Aztecs practiced human sacrifice but I don't remember any stories of them eating other humans.

Just as blacks ethnically cleansed whites from Detroit, St. Louis, Newark, etc. by intimidation? Hell, Little Italy in Manhattan was once known as "Little Africa" in the late 19th century, until the Eye-Ties chased out the blacks using knives and clubs. Nothing new here, despite what Calipornians think.

"Roosevelt High these days is 99.1% Latino."

What would the Fedgov and stategov's do if any other school were 99.1% white? or 88.1% black?
