They think the public will overlook the fact that he is, uh, a bit "over the hill" shall we say, and they will overlook his lackluster senate record which is about as significant as John Kerry's in terms of meaningful achievements. None of that will mater precisely because his face is on TV and the people will be inspired by him because Ronald Reagan was on TV too don't ya know and so Thompson is another Reagan. You must pay closer attention.
